Try posting more specific info on setup first. Please try to answer all the questions.

1. What's your connection like - do you have any green bars at all?
Is there a brick wall in front of world ?

2. Do this test & see if it works. What does it say ?
http://www3.limewire.com:6346

3. What are your details

OS ? (Win XP, Mac OSX etc.)
How much free harddiskspace ?
How much RAM ?
LW & Java version ? (In Limewire press Help>about LW & you'll see)
What Firewall you're using ?
Modem/router brand & model ?
Are you using portforwarding, UPnP or nothing ? (Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall Config)
What is your listening port ? (Same as above)
ISP (Internet Service Provider) ?
Connection type ? (Dial-Up, ADSL, DSL etc) + Speed Up/Down if you know
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Has Limewire ever worked for you ? If so how long have you been using it ?

Have you tried using any other P2P apps & if so, do you have the same problems ?

Also include any attempts to fix this. It helps people rule things out

So what you were really saying before was that you can't even get the program to start ????

Then it's not a connection problem

How far have you gotten

Is Limewire Installed properly ??

What happens when you try to start it ?? (error message etc.)

Your answers to my questions kinda contradict each other

1. You tell me that there is no brick wall. How would you know that if you can't get Limewire started

metallicachk999 July 31st, 2006 11:36 AM

No, the program won't even start. I haven't gotten very far. When I try to open it, it says "LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire." I checked my firewall, and it's not even on. It wasn't before I tried to fix it. I thought you ment a brick wall when I downloaded it. I'm sorry. I had no problems downloading it. The first time I tried, it said it was corrupt, so I downloaded it again and it worked fine. I dont know what to do.

There is a possibility that this happens because of some protection you have for your PC

What kind of anti spyware or antivirus programs do you use ?

Also what firewall did you turn of ?

If it was a hardware firewall (e.g. your router or even your ISP) Limewire should be able to open anyway and just not connect

There is no need to be running with no firewall. You can add Limewire.exe as an exception instead of turning it of. You will be leaving your PC open for malware when on the internet if you do have it turned off
