Yep even the gnutella ones ... in my experience anyway ... they will open LW, but LW doesn't know what the file is & has a ? beside file-type & simply goes to need more sources. But glad to hear they do sometimes work.

I've been wondering because I've tried to download episodes from an American TV series -sorry, we are not allowed to give any titles- and my search didn't produce any results except for two, one which was a song with the same title and another that if clicked on took you to the Amazon page advertising the DVD.
So I 'm getting them from e-Donkey but downloading is much slower than with LWpro
Just like the movie I'd been trying to download and (like Pope97) got a huge number of files to choose from with plenty of sources and LW kept saying "need new sources". I got CD1 from e-Donkey within 2 days while many others (part 2 or full movie) are being downloaded.
Being stubborn I went back to LW until I got one out of hundreds of them that could download. Finally it took just a few hours for the complete movie to download from LWpro whereas it took at least two days with e-Donkey to download the first part of that same movie . That's why I'd rather use LW

I've seen a few people having this problem, including myself when searching for more popular files recently and I saw somthing that may be at least part of the cause if what I've noticed is relivant..

I got to download a file, it says "connecting" for a long period of time, before eventually "need more sources", so I cancel the download realising it's one of "those" files that just won't download.. but then I checked my incomplete folder, and had loads of incomplete files from previously cancelled searches (that wouldn't connect) all 0 bytes in size.

So I'm wondering, if limewire downloads from the incomplete folder, is the reason that there are so many results for files that won't download because loads of people have tried to download the file, failed, but are still left with the 0 byte file in the "incomplete" folder, and after that's downloaded/created limewire runs out of sources?

And secondly, if that is true, could it not be that people who don't have p2p's best interests at heart are using this bug (if it is indeed a bug, I'm just guessing) to create results with hundreds of sources that will not download, thus helping to make the network so painful to find a true result people just won't bother?

maybe?

It sounds to me like you may have a mac. Perhaps not. But google Overpeer & you'll get an idea about where those search results come from. They only target copyright files, re: files that won't connect. In your search results, you may find 100 for one result, the next on the list may have 99, etc. Those ones are fake! So we normally recommend choosing those with say 10-20 sources under the # column of the search results. This is where Bitzi can come in handy to see if they really are genuine files.

Here's a link which mentions Overpeer: http://www.betanews.com/article/P2P_...ion/1134249644

Yes, for all files you attempt to download, it will create a file within the incomplete folder. Occasionally it's wise to do this: Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!; ie: remove those files from the download window & also from the incomplete folder.

Nope, not using a mac.. soon though! I'm pretty sick of Microsoft, so when Leopard's released I'm going to switch over. Yeah, I know the way they do that, pretty annoying, but I'm usually searching for files that don't attract such attention over copyright issues, so I guess I was just shocked by the scale of the problem. Do the 0 byte files in the incomplete folder add to the high number of sources for these downloads? If so (or even just for keeping the folder clean) Limewire should delete any 0 byte files on cancellation. There not doing any good for anyone there..
One thing I've noticed is that these files are usually hosted on systems with "browse host" disabled, or when browsed the error "couldn't browse host" pops up, so armed with this information for random spot checks, I'm going to go on the biggest careless blocking spree ever!

Expect to next see me under a thread named "No search results.. WHY?! " haha

lol Yes I agree, the incompletes should be removed automatically if you deliberately cancel downloads. But at least it does give the option of recontinuing the downld if you made a mistake or changed your mind. The incompletes don't have any relationship with the sources of your search results. But having many incompletes will make LW take longer to startup, longer to settle down, & use up more computer resources such as ram & virtual memory.
