I recall another couple of members who have experienced the same thing with the wall appearing and the disappearing...But I dont know why this happens...They just re-enter the manual Port Forward and Listen Port number again.....

I no longer have the brickwall. The problem seems to lie with the antivirus firewall. Many PCs are sold together with an antivirus software ready for installation (Norton; McAfee , generally)
Even if the new buyer doesn't install the ready-for-use antivirus in order to install another one , the Norton antivirus, for instance, is still there. To get rid of it you have to install it first and then disable it.
I found this out lately when I installed an upgraded version of Trend Micro PC-cillin : although I had never installed the Norton version on my computer it stopped the installation of PC-Cillin. Trend Micro warned I had to install Norton first and re-install PC-Cillin. When it comes to the stage when Norton stops the installation, the trend Micro antivirus takes over and removes all the Norton elements that could be in the way. Then you disable the firewall of your antivirus.
If you settings for LW are correct, if you have enabled your router and Windows security center to let through LW, the brickwall does not appear in front of the globe any more.

Default No brickwall anymore

Windows Xp kept crashing last week on my PC;(the message on a blue page saying that Windows will have to shut down on account on an error probably linked to either a pilot or peripherals)

So I decided to restore the whole system as found when buying it and now it works as clockwork. There's no brickwall when LimeWire opens, and all I did was close Windows firewall and give my router and Trend-micro antivirus the instruction to allow Limewire in.

So I suppose when the machine is "clean" from all the small programs or software we have downloaded over 2 or 3 years and Limewire is installed right from the beginning things run smoothly. I know it's kind of a bother having to restore the whole thing through and through but it's often the best way of overcoming our problems.

Default It doesn't matter

Yes you can use any port above 10000; use UPnP.It's recommanded.
Actually there's plenty of advice on this forum on how to set your Windows firewall, or that of of your antivirus, or your router, but it appears that sometimes LimeWire is behind a firewall even after everything has been set properly. My hunch is that an old antivirus software is still there somehow even you think you got rid of it for another one. Also don't use several firwalls (Windows, antivirus, router)

Unhappy winterchild

New here to this forum but not new to Limewire. Happy to be here where I see that people are actually replying regarding help needed!

Having major connection problems all of a sudden and my biggest question is...what ARE those port numbers I must enter, where do I enter these AND just how to find them on my computer...Do I need to do this if there is NO wall/globe problem? I am an older...way older and not awfully computer-literate, so it's hard enough being an older, without navigation problems via computer literacy added in! When I began with Limewire, I connected in a quick fashion. I have lots of music, yes, but like to continue to update my files when I hear new stuff I want.

....lately, I cannot connect. I have that feared disease...'starting connection', which ultimately goes to 'disconnected'. OS is WindowsXP, Norton protection, and my firewall shows just the globe, no wall...as Limewire was 'excepted' some time ago!

So...hopefully someone here can help me muddle through this.
