impossible to connect! problem: i try connecting to limewire but it just keeps saying starting connection. there is a wall in front of a globe displayed. ihave tried openeing the gnutella ports, i even disabled the firewall completely but still nothing and the brick wall is still in front of the globe my tech info: windows xp sp2 768mb of ram satellite broadband connection working perfectly ez trust anti virus, no firewall Gilat SkyEdge modem |
Rather than disabling the firewall (make sure you're only using 1), better to configure it properly. Firewall setup Do this test & see whether it works http://www3.limewire.com:6346 Have you tried using p2p apps before & if so, did they work? Have a look through the thread below. If your port test doesn't work, try changing to a higher port as suggested by LOTR. Also check out his link to "Connection problems...check here first". http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...274#post189274 If you're still stuck, post back with your details (excuse any repeat questions!) OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW |

Something's blocking LW's default port. A few people have had trouble trying to connect if they're on satellite. Did you try changing to a higher port? You could try calling your ISP & asking if they're blocking p2p. I don't know if the article below's going to help at all (don't know if your with Optus... Google found it when I was looking for info about your modem), have a read anyway. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...fm/473201.html |
i just contacted dragnet and asked if they were blocking p2p and how i could configure my setup to let limewire run. all i have to do now is wait... |
Good luck! :) |
they just wrote back saying they do not block p2p programs. what could it be? |
what port numbers should i try? and how long should i wait for it to connect? i got it to connect once but it was downloading at 1kb/sec |
Did you try changing to a higher port? Remember, you'll also have to change the port allowed through your software firewall as well. If that didn't work then I don't know:o Someone else might have a few more ideas... keep an eye on this thread. If nobody's answered in a day or so, bump the thread! *If you have a look at LOTR's posts in the third link I gave you (post #2), he gives some port numbers to try! |
ok im trying the port numbers now, if it keeps sayin starting connection should i let it go for 10 mins or so because at least now its not coming up with the error message |
