Default Please Help! My limewire just stop working suddenly!

i'm been reading some threads on here and i've tried most of the troubleshooting and still the problem persist. anyway, the problem is my limewire just stop working suddenly. i have deinstall it and then reinstalling it again, it and same thing happen. every installation steps were succcessful, but limewire fail to launch when i click on the icon on the desktop or anywhere for that matter. i remove old java runtime environment and install newest one, nothing. my firewalls are all fine and is set to allow limewire connection. i upgraded the adobe flash to 9.0. i have no clue what to do, b/c i tried everything in the forums and nothing could help me. Any thoughts on this...anyone? i have windows xp and tried downloading the lastest limewire 4.12...and no luck.

Try posting more specific info on setup first. Please try to answer all the questions. Sorry for any repeat questions

1. What's your connection like - do you have any green bars at all?
Is there a brick wall in front of world ?

2. Do this test & see if it works. What does it say ?
http://www3.limewire.com:6346

3. What are your details

OS ? (Win XP, Mac OSX etc.)
How much free harddiskspace ?
How much RAM ?
LW & Java version ? (In Limewire press Help>about LW & you'll see)
What Firewall you're using ?
Modem/router brand & model ?
Are you using portforwarding, UPnP or nothing ? (Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall Config)
What is your listening port ? (Same as above)
ISP (Internet Service Provider) ?
Connection type ? (Dial-Up, ADSL, DSL etc) + Speed Up/Down if you know
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Has Limewire ever worked for you ? If so how long have you been using it ?

If it worked before
Have you made any changes prior to it not working anymore? (Updated programs, installed new programs, got new antivirus etc.)

Have you tried using any other P2P apps & if so, do you have the same problems ?

Also include any attempts to fix this. It helps people rule things out

1) My connection was perfect, always excellent, all bars are green. The problem is when i click on limewire icon, the limewire interface loads for 2 seconds and then it disappears and nothing happens.

2) I have completely removed my limewire, so \I don't if the test/link you gave me is necessary. Let me know if it is, I will reinstall limewire again.

3) I have windows xp sp2, 80GB free space, 512MB, I tried download the latest limewire, which is 4.12 and the Java is the 1.5 update 8 (I think the latest one). I have McAfee Firewall, and Anti-virus protection. Modem/router is from SBC DSL (HomePortal) I have the elite version of the DSL, fastest one they have. Not sure about the speed, he said something like 3-6. No sharing with other computers. Limewire has always worked, but suddenly it stopped. i had the latest updates for microsoft windowns maybe on Aug. 8/9 and the limewire stopped working a few days after that.

i have not made any changes, updated microsoft windows xp alerts, thats about it. What is p2p applications?

Thanks

P2P stands for Peer-To-Peer. P2P applications are Limewire, Bearshare, Azureus etc. Anything that will allow you to connect and download/upload from other users.

Do the test anyway. It's more to test your ISP than anything else. They might be blocking ports etc. If it says true then they're not

In some firewalls you have to make new exceptions for Limewire if you update

So you're saying that it doesn't open at all now right ? Just the splashscreen then nothing ?

Could sound like a Java Problem. Try downloading Java 1.5 update 6 (the offline version) then remove your current version and install that one instead. Just don't know why a Windows update would currupt the java

Also if you have an older installer for Limewire saved somewhere then you could try downgrading again

Don't you get a errormessage when Limewire stops loading ?

hi grandpa:

it was working with mcafee fine, for along time and then suddenly it stoppped. also, but mcafee updated to a very new version, and i just kept the old version b/c i thought he was better. however, i got really frustrated and just upgraded to the newest version and it cured the problem. but mcafee is not a very good program,it takes awhile to load (the newest version that is) i would never pay for it but it came for 3 years free with our system. but i'm glad i know what the problem was
