My Internet connection drops when Limewire is opened...Help please I just moved into my new apartment and my DSL through Verizon was just installed. When I open Limewire my internet browsers no longer work and I have to unplug the modem & router, close Limewire and reboot the computer before the internet works again. Now, when I snag my neighbors wireless internet connection it works no problem, Limewire and internet browsing together (although somewhat slow due to the weak signal). I should say that my problem is occuring even when nothing is being downloaded or there are no incomplete downloads or anything like that. Ive never had this problem on any other computer, what is going on? What can I do, currently I have the MS Firewall activated but Limewire is an accepted/trusted site so that shouldnt be the issue. I did put 128bit encryption into my wireless signal through NETGEAR's Default gateway, could that be the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated, whatever additional info you need just let me know. Thanks again |
do you have a router it may need to type in limewires ports for port forwarding and then set limewire for port forwarding, this is why mine kept droping and slowing alot:D |
UPnP info can be found here for your device Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) |
go to link he posted config router to forward limewires two ports and make sure also type to forward limewire in ms firewall as well not just outgoing but incoming ports then everything should be fine |
thanks for the responses everyone, unfortunatly even after I did that port forwarding stuff my connection still keeps dropping. Even when Limewire isnt even open! I dont know what the deal is, every so often the connection drops. I unplug and replug in the Router and then it works again for a while, then drops again. Its obviously some type of router issue. Maybe since mine is kinda old?? Its a Netgear MR314. I dunno, Ive never experienced this problem before with any internet setup. Probably will need to buy a newer model router... unless there are any other ideas. |
not sure how comparable a router is to a modem, but I can tell you that what you describe sounds like a dying modem (and if they are comparable perhaps a dying router) |
call your isp and have them check it, my isp wouldnt belieave it wasnt me checked my connection 3 times and 4th time they sent a manager and hes like oh its us not your connection at datacenter, i was thinking duh and why did i pay 100 bucks each check:rolleyes: |
