Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Question help with connecting and searching

I purchased and downloaded limewire pro yesterday after using it at it friends and being v impressed but mine doesn't work and i'm sooooo frustrated. Software downloaded no problem but when i type in an artist to search for songs the name of the artist appears and a green bar slowly creeps across this after several minutes the bar has reached the end but i have had no searches and no results.
I do have a wall infront of my globe but have tried the suggestions on the forum although i'm not quite sure what I should be downloading
I have been through the help section on limewire and done all the recommendations, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled it but no luck
I'm not very technical so any support needs to be quite basic
thanks

In regard to the brickwall:
Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

In regard to the search (which could be connetcted to the brickwall); try to read here about license issues:

Default Here's one for ya...

I am also having problems connecting. I have used limewire before, but now it has stopped working for some reason.

The only thing that I can think of, is trying to (unsuccessfully) connect my laptop (which I'm having problems with) to my desktop through an Ad-Hoc network, using only a 2-way network cable. My friend is a networking guy, and tried to help me out, but he was stumped. I can't recall everything we did, but I know we were messing around with IP addresses, and subnets. I am a very computer literate person, but do not attempt to savvy myself as anything close to a networking guru.
The other thing, is that I connect through my office building. I know they have a firewall, so It doesn't matter if I turn mine off. The brick wall is always there. When I used to connect, I always had my firewall on, as well. However, I have spoken to my IT guy, and confirmed that his settings are no different that the settings he had when my system was connecting to the Limewire network properly. It used to work like a charm, but now it doesn't...and it is frustrating.

I tried a lot of those links that 'Lord of the Rings' mentioned, and even did the TCP/UNP port thing he recommended. Nothing is working.

-I am currently running Windows XP Pro, Svc. pack 2.
-Limewire version: 4.12.6
-Java Version: 1.5.0_06
-My connection is through an internal ethernet port using an "Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection" Device.
-I am using the windows firewall. I also have PC-Cillin, but it is a piece of crap, and I don't know why I haven't just deleted the damn thing, but I have completely disabled it.
Now, though I connect through my office, where all the other computers are part of a domain....I am NOT part of the domain. We all use a proxy address to connect. We are all sharing a connection through a server. The server holds the connection, and basically splits it out, to the other computers. I have not had any trouble with connecting to the internet, since we tried to connect to my desktop, but I have not been able to get into limewire, (or party poker, hahaha, but that's a good thing). Could this have anything to do with my default gateway or DNS server settings???

thanks for your help. Hopefully, we can get this thing working.

I presume your outgoing ip is either 192.xxx or 10.xxx right? Have you tried the proxy settings in LW? I'm not in the know about connecting from a large network domain. Are you saying the IT guy at work is able to use LW at work? If yes, then there's perhaps something he isn't telling you.

yeah, I've fussed with the ip settings in LW. Mumbo Jumbo. All that crap is confusing. I've gone into LW, and told it to use an Http proxy, and input the proxy and gate I've been using. Now, it doesn't want to work. You are right about the IP address though. 192.xxx.x.xxx.....

The IT guy does not run Lime Wire. He's a nerd, and doesn't even know what it is. The thing is, I was running it just fine, before. He has not changed anything, and I've always had a 192 IP address. There is a domain, that all the OTHER computers are hooked into. I am NOT part of the domain, but we all share the same connection.

Did you check whether the IP address and the Mask in LW are the same in the Local Area Connection under TCP/IP Internet Protocol?

I can easily find these values in Windows, but I don't know where i would find them in LW.

Maybe I'm not following. Are you saying that I should compare the IP and subnet values in my windows settings to the values in LW? If so, I don't know where to find them in LW.

I know that under options>advanced>proxy I have it set to use an Http Proxy with the proxy address and port input into the fields. I don't know where I would specify the IP address or Subnet Mask values.

FYI: I also have it set on Manual Port Forward on 6346 and to listen on port 5722. (I don't know if that makes a difference).
