Default My firewall needs help

I'm not new to p2p, but I am new to Limewire. When I downloading I'm informed I have very strong connection to the network, only to be informed minutes later I'm not fully connected. This makes for rather sluggish downloads.

My current firewall is Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6. When I'm using any p2p client I also use Peerguardian 2. Is my firewall adequate, or should I change it to something like Zonelarm. I'm simply wondering if my current firewall is too aggresive.

Tom

Did you configure it to allow LimeWire (LW)? (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?

Depending on your connection, sometimes if LW is overworked its connection can suffer. At least that's with LW Basic. Using the Resume/Find Sources on too many files at once can have that effect!!!

The problem is most likely your connection device which probably has an internal NAT firewall. Enabling UPnP or else, forwarding a port is the way to go. Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

1. Yes ... turn your XP firewall off. Just in case ... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...842#post178842

2. (a) Configuring Norton Internet Security, & (b) Reconfiguring Norton Firewall

3. Are you sure you don't have a modem/router NAT firewall issue also? What brand & model of connection device do you have? Details are very important!

Make sure UPnP is enabled: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...sBEFW11S4.mspx

If necessary port forwarding is: http://portforward.com/english/route...4/Limewire.htm

Choose one firewall & turn the other off. Anti-virus is not a firewall. But if your Panda includes a firewall, then make sure Windows firewall is turned off. Go to your control panels & make sure windows firewall is off. And for Panda, add LimeWire as an exception. That is of course if your Panda also has a firewall.
