It means the port is blocked for some reason ... either your firewalls, modem/router or your ISP. We need answers to certain questions such as these: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=61028

gamer2291 September 10th, 2006 05:25 PM

1. Windows XP
2. I had Zone Alarm, but after the problem I uninstalled it. Windows firewall, but when I try to open it to see if its on or not it says due to an unidentified problem, windows cannot display windows firewall settings. It might have been disabled by Zone Alarm and before when it worked I did the stuff to allow limewire and that didnt fix the problem.
3. 320 MB of RAM
4. 2.46 GB (Old shitty computer)
5. Broadband
6. Modem- NextNet Wireless RSU-2510, Router- Linksys WRT54G
7. Connecting from Home
8. LimeWire Pro 4.12.6 & Java 1.5.0_6
9. Evertek (Small ISP in Iowa)
10. I have an antenna on my house (im in the middle of nowwhere) the antenna goes to my modem in my attic, goes down my chimney to my basement connects to my router and that goes to my computer, my dads computer and to my xbox.
11. Ive had limwire for a while and it has worked great up until a few weeks ago where it hasn’t been able to connect… I used to just restart my computer and then it would work but now it wont connect no matter what I do…
12. Yes, there is a brickwall infront of the globe…

My Dads computer is much much newer than mine and it has 394MB of RAM 130GB (also doesn’t work on this computer) No firewall on it Limewire and java are the same as the other computer.

Lord of the Rings September 10th, 2006 06:26 PM

eek! wrt54g, they are reknown for problems with their firmware & unreliability. Generally Linksys are very good but the 54 series afaik sucks (excuse the language!)

I've heard of nextnet devices before but know little if anything about them. Almost all wireless devices have internal nat firewalls. The issue is usually to enable UPnP if the device supports it or else, forward a port in order for a port in need to be opened.

Strange it worked before but not now. If the problem is not the device then it may be your isp who may be secretly filtering or blocking p2p programs.

As far as software firewalls go, you should only have one active one. Either choose XP or ZA fw. But you will need to configure whichever one you choose. Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) & about zonealarm see this extra http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...&threadid=3878

If still problems get back. I'm about to go offline so my answer is a little brief for the time being. :o

BTW you could also try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) And see if that makes any difference. ;)

gamer2291 September 10th, 2006 06:30 PM

hit me up on msn or aol
***don't post yur email addy moron, read the damn forum rulez
aol-tonystellish

i really need to know what to do next

ive configured windows firewall, got rid of zone alarm and deleted my preferences none of that has worked and I tried to follow a step by step to forward a port and it wouldnt let me connect to my router with 192.168.1.1 and blank username and password as admin

gamer2291 September 11th, 2006 03:58 PM

seems that my isp (evertek) has been blocking p2p file sharing for a few weeks about the time that my problems started...I would switch isp's if i could but being in the middle of nowhere this is my only option other than dial-up...Iv'e tried this http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=32882 but cant get it to work and also it is a little confusing because it appears to be for an older version of limewire....I'd still like n e help I can get

Lord of the Rings September 11th, 2006 05:46 PM

Check thru the pages not only page one. ;)

gamer2291 September 11th, 2006 06:52 PM

I set the manual port forward at port 6346 and listen on port at 6346 and the I would try a proxy I tried like 10 and none of them worked LimeWire kept saying that there is no active internet connection. I looked in the other pages and it sayed nothing about the current version.....!??!?!?
Why do ISP's do this!??!?!? It'd be nice if someone could help me with a step by step thing for the proxies or if they could tell me what I did wrong....

Lord of the Rings September 11th, 2006 07:21 PM

AFAIK (I've never used proxies personally), you have to keep sifting thru proxies until you find one that works. Also keep in mind there's more than one type of proxy. eg: (i) http proxies, ___ (ii) A Successful http Proxy Solution, __ (iii) HTTP proxy blocks P2P,
(iv) SecureX http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...t=55461&page=5

gamer2291 September 11th, 2006 08:17 PM

i just got off the phone with another person from evertek...this person says that all they do is block people from downloading off their customers and that most people can connnect to limewire, idk maybe its a router problem I would try and forward a port but I CANT GET INTO MY ROUTER it keeps asking me for the user name and password and I was told to type nothing in for user name and admin for password and it says 401 Unathorized-Authorization Required!?!?!!? Does n e one else have similar problems with this!??!?!?! If n e one helps me get LimeWire going ill give them 10 bucks........lol

Thanks again.......

Sleepless September 12th, 2006 01:48 PM

10 Bucks!!! WOW :D

First you says the test doesn't work and then still try to forward the same port :D Blocked means blocked

Set both the listening port and the forwarded port to the same number, but choose one between 50000 and 60000. Then restart Limewire

If you are able to at least connect now we're allready making progress

The windows firewall might be a problem though. We need to figure that one out somehow

Now on to your router. First go out and buy a new one that's not a WRT54G :D Kidding :D

No seriously they are a real drag to get working with any P2P software including Limewire. Some do succed though, meaning there is some hope.

I'll post back with some links that might help a bit

edit: :D Found it. Either Henne197 had some serious setback making him/her unable to reply or got it working and was very rude not to say thanks ;) Just remember that the firmwareupgrade is for WRT54G v5
If you have any other version then don't use it

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...light=firmware

For the router try typing admin into both username and password

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 02:27 PM

hey thanks for replying, i tried using the pass and username as admin and it didnt work.....again.... im gonna go c if i can borrow my friends router and try it here.

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 03:28 PM

well after changing routers and later connecting my computer directly to my isp (evertek)port 6346 remains blocked and I know that my modem isnt doing it because i used limewire on it before for a couple years...the only other explaination is that my isp (evertek) is blocking the port and not allowing me to connect with limewire...i tried the proxy thing again and.....nothing
idk if n e one can help but if u can PLEASE post back
thanks

Lord of the Rings September 12th, 2006 03:41 PM

Try another port to connect thru. Try one between 49152 - 65535 (eg: 64049) as these are usually the very last ISP's block. ie: go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the connection & listening port both to the higher port. If you have manually port forwarded your connection device then you'll need to do another for the new port. Also adjust any firewall settings if they specify ports. Remember you should only have one active software firewall.

Did you get a manual with your NextNet device? Within it should be instructions on how to log in & how to open certain ports or how to enable UPnP. Both the Linksys & NextNet devices will have internal NAT firewalls. Also check the wrt54g note under the UPnP section here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 04:07 PM

I tried my brothers router,my friends router,my other router, and finally I just moved my whole computer to my basement and tried a direct connect to my modem and....none of it worked (obviously its not the router) and I highly doubt its my modem...I asked some of my friends that use evertek and they said their limewire has also stopped working so has my brothers!?!? I cant connect to the router using admin as pass or admin as pass and username or anything so, im just gonna try using my 2nd router and c if i can port forward on that

Lord of the Rings September 12th, 2006 04:12 PM

Try changing connection ports or did you try already?

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 04:19 PM

aparently this one i cant port forward on either....it doesnt even say its a router it says 10/100 Fast Ethernet Network Hub Model NH1005 LinkSys
!?!?!?!???!!??!?!?!??!??!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!! ?!!?!?!?!?!!????!!!!!??!?!?!?!??!?!
ARGH!!

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 04:20 PM

connection ports u mean in tools>options>advanced>firewall config and listen on port and manual port forward? Ya, they are both set at 52255

Sleepless September 12th, 2006 04:22 PM

Yes....Finally :D

Lord of the Rings September 12th, 2006 04:24 PM

Yes ;) :)

BTW I'm not sure of your specific model but most LInksys wrt54g's you can port forward. eg: http://www.portforward.com/english/r...G/Limewire.htm
But this is not your issue I suspect.

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 04:30 PM

I dont doubt that you can port forward on them, its just that I can get into the stupid thing....the password isnt admin on mine IDK what it is!??!!?!?
One problem after another lol....

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 04:34 PM

Idk is it possible for my isp to be like COMPLETELY filtering limewire or like totally blocking gnutella or w/e!??!
Im angry........lol I just want this to work!??!

Lord of the Rings September 12th, 2006 04:35 PM

If the password is different ... sorry I'm not sure about Linksys but I know with mine I can reset it. It blanks out all the memory. If you bought it through your isp then ask them for assistance. There's also the Linksys support site: http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...type=search_nl __ / __ http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...wers.search_nl
Or logging in http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...wers.search_nl eg: http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...i=&p_topview=1

birdy September 12th, 2006 04:37 PM

gamer2291,
Did you try resetting your router? Apparently if you get that error 401, you'll need to reset to restore factory defaults... might be able to log into it after that?
http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...i=&p_topview=1
:)

Apologies if you've already tried this!!

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 04:39 PM

o sweet....thanks birdy ill go try that now:D!!!

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 04:48 PM

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 06:26 PM

I successfully forwarded port 52255 and i have for the first time in a VERY long time connected to limewire!!!??!

gamer2291 September 12th, 2006 06:44 PM

It just bounces between fair-good connection and starting connection

I cant download anything.........at least im connected, its a start...

For the firewall prob:
Make sure your McAfee config is still ok & also double check that XP firewall is off.
How do you have your router set up (UPnP enabled, port forwarded or nothing)? I'm not sure if your router supports UPnP...if it does, you could try enabling it within the router, then choose that option within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config.
Or you could try port forwarding. See the link below
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Limewire.htm

Connection:
Number 10's a bit of a worry...if you can't connect to that page it means the default Gnutella port's blocked. Was there a time when LW used to connect?
I don't want to be a pessimist but it could be your ISP at fault, have a look at the last post by Aaron below
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?p=202379

You could try changing ports, change LW's listening port (on the firewall config page) to something like 64049. You'll also have to change port numbers forwarded to that same number. If your ISP are blocking, changing ports may not help at all...but it's not going to hurt to try.

Check the sticky below for more connection/firewall advice
