Default Tried Everything In The Last 2 Months To No Avail!!!!! Arrgghh, Very, Very Frustratin

I Had Limewire 4.10 For About 2months Without Problems, I Downloaded Files Without Issue Until About 2months Ago It Stopped Connecting, I Thought It Was Because The Had The Newer 4.12 Version, So I Downloaded That Version All To No Avail. Since Then I've Installed And Uninstalled Over 20 Times With No Sucess, And Today I Just Installed The New Java 5.0 Version 6 Still To No Avail, Note That I've Deleted My Preferences Also Several Times. I Don't Know What To Do. I Run Winxp SP1 PENTIUM 4, My Isp Obviously Don't Block It Cuz It Workd Before, Could It Be That I Need To Upgrade To Sp2, I Doubt Cuz I Read The Threads And Sp2 Seems To Generate More Issue With The P2p Software. Somebody, Anybody' S Contribution Would Be Good Please..
Thanks

Did your LW stop connecting, or did your downloads stop connecting?
How many green connection bars do you see? If you only have the first green bar, do this test & see what result you get

Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall)? Make sure that you're only using 1 firewall that's configured properly. You'll find a link for firewall config in the thread below. You'll also find lots of helpful info about configuring modems/routers. If you're still stuck, post back with your details. The thread will explain what info we need

Default only one green bar

I have one green bar, the brick wall is there and the test says it worked, i have the port forwarded, like i said it worked about 2 months ago, and i'm still doing it the way i did it the way it was when it worked. the brick wall was there when it used to work, the only firewall i have is winxp firewall nothing else, i'm sure it's something very easy i'm missing, i'm still having the problem though

I had the same problem with connection which cropped up suddenly this week, even though there was no change to my ZoneAlarm setting,ISP,etc
Regarding ZA,the technical help page say "Choose the Prorgams Tab
Make sure that javaw.exe row has either checks ...".I could find only java.exe not javaw.exe.How is this so?

One way to fix this is use the system restore in XP [accessories-system tools] and go back about 2- 21/2 months back and see how that goes.

I have windstream dsl and never had a problem connecting lw until I installed 4.16, I tried everything mentioned several times, my fix was to go to modem config. on the internet and turned off the firewall there. lw now works great, but like I said I never had to do this with any other version, go figure.

Birdy,

Put all the connection problems expressed by people in this forum & add all the suggested solutions together, & you have me! I have run out of options to try. I know I can make LW work on an older version ie v.4.12.6 which I have tried between efforts to make v4.16.2/3 work (but without being able to access this forum), but I'd really like to see if I can make v4.16.3 work, so here's the info. Note, I am your most amateur of computer users, so apologies for the dumbness in answering some of the requirements you suggested we submit.

OS: Windows xp
Browser: IE7 (for what that's worth)
Firewall: Norton?
RAM: 512MB
HD space available: 37GB
Modem: ADSL D-Link
Broadband
LW: Presently 4.16.3
Java: 1.5.0_14 (couldn't find suggested 1.5.0_11) have also tried J2SE RE 5.0_6, & umpteen others
ISP: Xtra.co.nz
Test site says: "Your test worked"
Sharing connection? - No-one else, I don't think
LW was working great on older version, but since trying new version, no go.
There is a brick wall in front of blue world icon.
Always just the first little connection thingy is blue.
UPnP enabled? Is that the box in Control Panel-Windows Firewall-Exceptions-upnp framework? Just ticked it.
Security program: Norton Internet Security
Country: Across the ditch - NZ

That's it? Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks. I love LW (old version) and I'm sure I'll love the latest Basic freebie version once I get it up and running.

Thanks.

Cool I had same problem

I had same problem, limewire just couldn't detect a connection. Even though I had one. So i tried just about everything you could think of. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times. Did same with java. I did so many things even turned off my fire wall. Then today, I finally found a way to fix it. Here are the steps i took:

1.)Get into windows firewall settings.
2.)Click on the "advanced" tab.
3.)Go down to where it says ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol).
And click on settings.
4.)For me, I checked all the boxes to save time. Because I didn't really
know, or care which one was stopping limewire from accessing the
internet connection. But after checking them all and clicking OK. Sure
enough, Limewire worked. About 20 seconds after I made the
Hope it helps =)
