The default gnutella port is 6346. However, you can usually also safely use ports between the range of 49152 - 65535. 64049 seems to work well for those who have their ISP blocking or shaping bandwidth on the 6346 port. For port forwarding, it's recommended you use the same port for both connecting & listening. However this is not mandatory. UDP & TCP can also be port forwarded separately which is recommended by some people.

That's when it's running in UPnP mode. UPnP mode listening port can potentially vary from time to time. But if your device doesn't support UPnP & has internal NAT firewall then the listening port will be on mostly deaf ears.

Hey Lord of the Rings. I have been having some trouble connecting and could not see the test page so i assume this is due to the 6346 port being blocked by my ISP (at first i thought it was my firewall but i switched it off and also tried the firewall setup instructions on the faq but to no avail)

Could you talk me through how to get around this 6346 port issue. I don't really know where to go to change the settings so you may have to be specific.

Thanks in advance.

1st can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
4. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? This "is" important to know!
5. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
6. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
7. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
8. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
