Limewire settings Quote:
Click Tools->Options A few steps that may, or may not work: 1-Then go to Speed. Have you set the speed correctly? This may be telling people you have a slower or faster connection than you have and then they send you and you send them wrong information. That is never good. 2-Connections: Try disabling connect on startup. This will allow the program to start fully without having to try to find a connection right away. Try connecting manually. 3-Filters->Hosts: Check that you haven't inadvertantly blocked so many hosts that Limewire has a hard time finding any. 4-If none of this works, try checking Program Data (a hidden folder in Documents and Settings under your profile name) for a folder named Limewire. (I don't have any, but different versions can do completely different things). If it's there, go to Add/Remove Programs and un-install Limewire first, then delete this folder. Find a folder, probably at root, named Incomplete and delete this. Move any files you have in your download folder and delete this too. Re-install Limewire. 5- If all the above doesn't work, if you haven't yet tried it, disconnect the cable or de-activate your modem/network card or wire-less connection and re-start. Be sure you have downloaded Limewire first. Do step 4 (or as much as you need to) Connect the cable or activate your modem/network card/connection and re-start Limewire. 6- If you have more than one firewall, disable all but one. Firewalling firewalls causes too many problems That's it from me. If you haven't gotten it to work now, I'm at a loss. |

Ive been running LW for a long time. I did a clean re-install on my PC and now, I cannot connect. Ive used the same settings as always and when that didnt work I tried the connection suggestions on the main page. After that, I went to Microsofts site and re checked all of the settings for XP, followed by coming here. Ive tried all of the suggestions I could find, including 3 un-installs/re-installs/up date ect.. Could someone please tell me what to do now, if I dont fix this problem soon, Im going to write LW off, which I really dont want to do, however Im getting pretty frustrated. Thanks |

ok, Ive followed it all step by step. I could never get the page to load where it said, 'Your test worked!'. and I am now stuck at the plug and play. I dd all of it but when I got to the Universal plug & play, it wasnt there. I read on and tried to figure it out on my own, but I just dont understand what Im suppose to do next. Sorry. |

Do you mean that you can't enable UPnP within your router, or when you got to LW's firewall config page, there was no option for using UPnP? How did you have your router set up previously (UPnP enabled, port forwarded or neither)? If the test doesn't work, it means that LW's default port is blocked. You could try changing to a higher port, one in the range of 49152-65535. Tools > options > advanced > firewall config will get you to the page where you can change the listening port. If you change listening port, you'll also have to change port numbers allowed through your software firewall & connection ports if you're running with port forwarding or UPnP enbled within your router. It might be easier if you could give us a few details, it's pretty hard to help without knowing anything about your setup!! You'll see the info we need within the connection problems sticky:wink: |

ok, Im sorry. Before when I set up limewire, I just -set it up. I never had to really do anything, none of this, it just worked. So, I really am lost here. I know that I am blocked this time, I have even tried shutting down my antivirus (AVG) and my firewall (windows XP) but that didnt work either. When I went to My Network Places view network connections advanced bla bla networking services there was no universal plug & play to check. Ive changed the listening ports to 6346 because 6620 didnt work. I have no idea what to do with the proxy within LW. I will go back to where you sent me and I will try again. |

It's me again. Been following all of the posts about not being able to connect. Trying all of their ideas, learning. Alot. Still no luck though. Most frustrating. I thought at one time I would just give it up, but I'm going to stick with it till I get it! Running Windows XP Home AVG Windows Firewall So, still looking and still not connected. |
