Dropping internet connection when going through router When i bypass my router, everything works fine, when I use the router and limewire I loose conection on all computers. tjust pops in and out and sometimes I have to powercycle everything. I have opened up the ports 6346 on the router and also through the windows firewall for Gnuella. Sometimes the little brick wall is in front of the globe and sometimes it is not their. Have the firewall on the desktop that is running charter security suite turned off and am just using windows firewall with the port 6346 open. The laptop is running trend micro which does not have a fire wall, just windows firewall but also opened the same ports here. Using a netgear wgn824v2 Tried port forwarding, port triggering, and address reservations to make my router keep giving the laptop the same ip so I could set up port forwarding. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Mail me at scott74@msn.com Thanks Scott. |

Try not using the Resume/Find Sources function on all your files at once. Also consider doing this: Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!. A sudden push of traffic such as resume function or having lots of incompletes attempting to connect at once may cause this. Also, disable Ultrapeer capabilities under Tools>Options>Speed. And disable OOB searching in same window. Also disable iTunes support/sharing. See if this helps. I can understand UPnP failing or being unreliable but thought port forwarding would be more reliable. What you should normally do when port forwarding is do a separate port forward for each of tcp & udp. I was told last year by someone who uses a different p2p technology that the router will behave better when this is done. |

I had "ultrapeer" turned off. Just now turned off "OOB searching" and "tunes", reconnected and the same problem occurs. "a network cable unplugged", then it comes back with "network cable now connected", most times but not always it then does a refresh of the IP address. I have one item in the download queue, am doing a search (whats new) and have an active Internet connection. I tried "port forwarding" and it did not seem to make any difference. My system is as follows: 1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98) "Windows Media Center" 2. What firewalls you have? "Computer Associates EZ Trust"(Zone Alarm) 3. How much ram? "2 meg" 4. Hard Disk space available? "216.47 gig" 5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) "cable, Road Runner Lite" 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? "router= Belkin F5D5230-4" "modem=Terayen TJ715X" 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? "home" 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. "Limewire 4.12.6 Pro, Java 1.50_08" 9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)"Brighthouse, Road Runner" 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. "no" 11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it says "your test worked" Any help would be appreciated. Cliff |

AFAIK Belkins are better port forwarded than run in UPnP mode. Have you checked to see if there are firmware updates for your model of belkin? Firmware upgrades can sometimes fix some issues. But if there is a firmware upgrade, check for user feedback to see there's no bugs with it. Main, / UK Support I found this page http://www.belkin.com/support/downlo...5D5230-4&mode= Are you sure the problem is your belkin & not the modem? I found this. Are you using USB or ethernet between your devices & computers. I've read where USB can struggle for high usage. Such as discussed here. |

Lord of the Rings, I appreciate the help and research that you are doing on my problem. Early on when I installed Limewire I went to the Belkin Router site and installed new Firmware on my router as what I had was not up to date. I am using the route over Ethernet rather than USB. I will try port forwarding again will let you know it this corrects the problem. Thanks, Cliff |
