For direct connect to work, you should both have chat enabled & not be firewalled. Do either of you see the firewall icon (brick wall)? Click on the link for some more info about using direct connect

If you're not firewalled, just give it some time. Browsing a host is a bit hit-and-miss anyway...won't work then 5 minutes later, it will!

Is the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue globe) showing for either of you?

If you want to use direct connect, you'll have to get rid of the firewall icon.
LW might be seeing an internal firewall within your modem/router. Have a look through the sticky below, it has heaps of info about firewall & connection problems
Connection problems? Check here first!

*If you're using Win XP, make sure you have the XP firewall turned off...it will cause a conflict with Norton's firewall!

Start off by making sure your XP firewall's off & your Norton firewall's configured properly, there's a link to firewall setup within the connection problems thread.

If you post your details, it'll be easier to help you! You'll see the info we need in post #2 of the connection problems thread.

Btw...does your friend see the firewall icon? They'll have to get rid of theirs too!!
