wont start;*',, FIREWALL PROBELM

k so ive been having trouble starting up limewire all weekend. whenever i click into it, i get a block message that reads: LIMEWIRE WAS UNABLE TO INTILIZE AND START. THIS IS USUALLY DUE TO A FIREWALL PROGRAM BLOCKING LIMEWIRES ACCESS TO THE INTERNET OR LOOPBACK CONNECTIONS ON THE LOCAL MACHINE.PLEASE ALLOW LIMEWIRE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET AND RESTART.

this is driving me crazyyyy!
so heres my info.
-windows xp
-dial up aol
-norton antivirus
-windows firewall
-first time with limewire
-home computer
-latest versions of lime and java

ive been playing around with norton and windows firewalls, turning them off, adjusting the rules and what not.. but nothing seems to work.

someone pleaseeee help meee :/ :bangh:

Dump aol & you'll be a lot better for it. I hate answering aol questions because they're not easy to solve. Plus AOL plus, has extra security which does no good for LW. In fact it has spyware program that thinks LW is spyware. duh! You're better off turning off AOL security!!!!! ;)

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

More about norton here (a) Configuring Norton Internet Security, & (b) Reconfiguring Norton Firewall

Just in case, check steps 1-5 here Fixes for Limewire (ignore step 4)

ok so two questions. how would i turn off AOL SECURITY? and 2., how would i do the firewall configuration instructions if i cant even get into limewire?

and thanks for the help, i hate aol for doing this to me too. lol

You do the firewall configurations with your own firewall programs. Turn one off, the other configure. To disable XP's firewall, http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...842#post178842

Check your AOL options. I don't use AOL so can't tell you.

i disabled xpfirewall and configured norton.. but still nothing. does that mean its aol?

this is so frustrating. and im sorry for bugging you.

That's ok. AOL is not the best option for p2p sharing I have to say. But I don't know enough about the problems to solve them. Might need to wait for another regular member to come online & offer their ideas.
