Connection Lost or firewall is blocking connection error Hi I have Limewire Pro the latest version and the latest Java SW, my PC runs XP home with a 250GB hard drive that I download to (Freecom) connected via USB. I am in UK so my ISP is NTL broadband via the set top box for the TV, I have 1GB of RAM and a Pentium 4 processor. I start Limewire and it all comes up ok connecting etc, then I get turbo charged connection I search for downloads I want and start them they all chug along nicely. I then go and check the PC after an hour or so and I get an error message from Limewire 'Connection Lost or firewall is blocking connection' The globe icon is clear no walls in front of it, my conenction to NTL says connected. My Nortons Internet security package's firewall has been set to 'permit all' for Limewire and the XP firewall is off as Nortons switches it off upon install of their SW - yet I keep getting this error i am becoming increasingly dejected as I had Limewire before and it was great no problems at all. I have printed a load of stuff off from the forums which I intend to look at but I still think that this will not cure the problem and am disappointed TBH Please can someone help me Regards Rich31365 |

NTL Set Top Box and Overheating Rich31365 A friend of mine is a P2P and NTL user, he said that the combined Pace TV and internet set top box is prone to overheating and once that happens you will get intermittent disconnections. A short term solution is to put the Pace box on its side, exposing the ventilation vents, then set a desk fan to continually blow air over it. My friend has also said that NTL are aware of this “overheating” problem, so therefore you should ask NTL to replace the PACE connection box with a more up to date one. UK Bob |

Hi I have SSung box not a Pace - The internet keeps closing with this box so I have now asked for a cable modem which will be installed Thursday next. I hope it fixes the problem! as a pain in the butt! Cheers R |

I hope you're using an ethernet connection for your cable & not usb or else you may suffer the same problems. Example: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/index...SL_modemS03_04 |

Hi LOFTR I will ask that it is ethernet - I have ethernet currently going to the SAM SUNG box so it shouldn't be a problem when they install the cable modem? - I will insist on the ethernet if this is possible if not they can poke it! Regards R |

Hi LOFTR No good for me then as I am in UK we have useless NTL here I am suspecting that the connection will be USB but not 100% sure I guess someone will pick up this on the thread and advise. I can add I did some tweaking and still my broadband cuts off so am waiting for the cable modem! R |

I believe ukbobboy01 is in the know of the better UK ISP's. Certainly the ones NOT to go for are listed here: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/caps.htm. Or overall these ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire |

Junior Member Rich31365 The only ISPs that I am aware of that do not have an anti-P2P policy is NTL and Bulldog. However, now that Bulldog has been taken over by Pipex the anti-P2P policy may change so I would advise you to stick with NTL, especially now that NTL, in the near future, may offer you cheaper mobile phone charges. And besides, my friend who uses NTL, and infomed me about your problem, is quite happy with the service providing that he remains problem free (NTL are well known for their tardiness when dealing with customer's problems).
