1 Green Bar!

Ok. When I start up LimeWire at the CONNECTION BAR image it saids DISCONNECTED.

Then later 1 GREEN bar is FILLED!...

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...air136/low.jpg

I tried doing that thing that LIMEWIRE told me to do. With the Gnutella and the UDP port and stuff...

I also tried PORTFOWARDING for my router...

PLUS. I don't live in a dorm and I have been in the same room right beside my ROUTER.
I had used LIMEWIRE before and worked FINE! but now its not working and Im really mad.

birdy October 10th, 2006 04:18 PM

Have you been through this sticky?
Connection problems? Check here first!

Do the port test & see if it works. Did you also try enabling UPnP within your router (if it supports it)?

You'll need to give us a few more details. Post #2 of the sticky shows the info we need:wink:

despair136 October 10th, 2006 05:35 PM

I tried that...

birdy October 10th, 2006 05:58 PM

Well...did the port test work?
Where are your details?

despair136 October 10th, 2006 06:00 PM

what details? It just doesnt work... still the same thing 1 green bar... no change!

If you read that sticky, you'll see what details.

Sleepless October 10th, 2006 11:40 PM

Exactly why I didn't bother to answer. As I expected that "same" problem was far from the same problem. If you live in a dorm then there is a good chance that Limewire is blocked by the school.

thats why I made my own post SAYING i DONT live in a dorm i havent changed rooms or nothing so it narrows it down.

Sleepless October 11th, 2006 08:48 AM

I was referring to your reply to the other thread.

If you don't make any progress by following Birdys link then start with posting more details. You will find out which by reading through the thread that she linked to.

Oh and I missed that "don't" before when reading your post. Hence my answer

despair136 October 11th, 2006 03:15 PM

Your confusing me...

Sleepless October 11th, 2006 03:37 PM

Read the sticky

If you had read it you wouldn't be confused. Im the very first link in that sticky is a long thread with only two posts.

It's the top thread in the forum

Looks like this:

Attachment 2962

Attachment 2963

Are you still saying that you already read it ???

despair136 October 11th, 2006 03:38 PM

Yo i read that... tried them... wow dont be so freaking disrespectful.

Sleepless October 11th, 2006 03:45 PM

And did you by any chance read more than the the first few lines. In the case that you did then how on Earth did you miss this ???

despair 136,
These are the details we need.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?

Can you answer these questions?

The reason that people get p*ssed off is because it's impossible to help if we don't know any details of your setup.

Sleepless October 12th, 2006 09:16 AM

Sorry for blowing off some steam there. I'm just so very tired of people wanting the members here to guess the solution to their problem without any real details

Umm you mean at the bottom of Limewire? than YES :D

birdy October 23rd, 2006 04:38 PM

Did you make sure that the Norton firewall was configured properly (& that XP's f/w was disabled)?

You could try using the UPnP option for your router but I'm not sure how reliable it's going to be in UPnP mode. Some people have had issues & needed to update the firmware...there's quite a lot of info & links about this in the original connection problems sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
If you do decide to try, make sure that UPnP is enabled within the router & then choose the 'Use UPnP' option within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config (it might be easier to just use port forwarding though).

To set up port forwarding, click on the link below for instructions. Remember to set up a static IP address first, or the port forwarding won't work.
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...S/Limewire.htm

You might want to update your Java too, the latest JRE is update 9. Use the offline installer here & remove your old Java version before installing the new one.
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

*Not to put you off or anything, but some people have had problems with Shaw throttling bandwidth for p2p. Check out the post below & if you use the forum search to look for Shaw, you'll find more info:wink:

despair136 October 23rd, 2006 04:42 PM

I dont get the PORT FOWARDING part. Like it saids

( BOX ) to ( BOX )

What do i enter? The Listening port or the port underneath?

birdy October 23rd, 2006 04:48 PM

Sorry, I don't get what you mean about the port underneath. You'll need to forward the port that LW's listening on.

despair136 October 23rd, 2006 04:55 PM

You know there are 3 RATIOS BUTTON things on the bottom...

Use UPnP (Rec.)
Manual Port Foward: (BOX) <- What do you put there?
Do Nothing (Not Rec.)

And at the top it PROVIDES A LISTENING PORT: (Eg. 123)

birdy October 23rd, 2006 04:56 PM

Put in the listening port number, cause that's the port number you've forwarded.
Sorry, I thought you might've been talking about one of the port boxes within your router config page.

despair136 October 23rd, 2006 04:59 PM

Oh no need to be sorry :D
Also... So the listening port was like 123 I am suppost to enter 123 to 123 right?

birdy October 23rd, 2006 05:01 PM

Yep. You are just using 123 as an example, right?:D

despair136 October 23rd, 2006 05:03 PM

LOL, YEA!!! xD

And, For the 3 ratios at the bottom what should I have it set on?

birdy October 23rd, 2006 05:07 PM

Manual port forward. Then click Apply.

despair136 October 23rd, 2006 05:09 PM

But in MANUAL PORT (BOX) <- What do i put in the box?

birdy October 23rd, 2006 05:18 PM

You mean on the LW firewall config page? Put in the listening port number into the manual port forwarding box.

despair136 October 23rd, 2006 05:21 PM

You mean the MANUAL PORT?

birdy October 23rd, 2006 06:01 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Yes. See the attachment. I'm using port 6346 & I have port 6346 forwarded in my router, so this is what my options look like in LW.

birdy October 23rd, 2006 07:25 PM

It doesn't matter...my FrostWire listens on 34704:D
6346 is just the default.

Has the brick wall gone?

Sleepless October 23rd, 2006 07:28 PM

If you are having problem connecting then it's better to try higher ports. Recommended would be the 50000-65000 range. They go up to 65000something.

I use 64049 myself and that works fine for me.

If an ISP uses port blocking or throttling, than they are more likely to be blocking the lower ports.

despair136 October 23rd, 2006 07:29 PM

Here...

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...air136/pic.jpg
I couldnt upload it here because the file was to big but this will give you a clue.
THE FIREWALL BRICK IS STILL THERE :O

Sleepless im a noob can you use easier english :D

birdy October 23rd, 2006 07:35 PM

How long ago did you finish setting up p/f? Let LW sit for a half hour or so, then see of the wall's gone. Did you set up a static IP with no problems? Did you remember to save settings after the router config?

despair136 October 23rd, 2006 07:37 PM

Yea i saved and what is p/f? Yea im sure the IP is right and all.

birdy October 23rd, 2006 07:43 PM

p/f = port forwarding (to save typing it all).

Try turning your router off, leave it for 30 seconds then turn it back on.
You can always do what sleepless suggested & change to a higher port. Try the port that he's using...64049.
Just the same as you've done, but using that higher port number instead of your original.

despair136 October 23rd, 2006 08:07 PM

hmm ok ill do what you say and tell you what happened tomorrow :)
Late

Hi, I also visited the sticky, but the LIMEWIRE link to the Mcafee connection troubleshooting does not work (bottom of the page). How do I enable limewire to connect via Mcafee?

despair136 October 25th, 2006 03:31 PM

I tried leaving LIMEWIRE on for about an hour... still has low connection!

birdy October 25th, 2006 06:47 PM

despair136,
Has the brick wall gone? Did you try a higher port, like Sleepless suggested?
If you're using SP2, are you using a patch for connections? Try that. You'll find some links in the post below
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...419#post105419

If that's no help then I'm all out of ideas right now. If you're still suffering, bump this thread & maybe someone else will have some more clues.

Sammig,
Check the post below for another McAfee link

Limie369 October 25th, 2006 07:23 PM

Hello all. I'm in the same boat as Despair- I've been waiting two **** HOURS for the thing to get off one bar and connecting. So that I don't get the tech help mad at me, either:

Compaq running windows XP.
I have the windows firewall, with the exception... then just plain turned off. (Still thave the little firewall icon, though, despite a restart.)
My router is a D-link "DI-604"

My test worked.

I have used this program successfuly before.

birdy October 25th, 2006 08:06 PM

Did you go through the "Connection problems? Check here first" sticky? If not, please do...there's a link somewhere at the start of this thread. It's better to have your firewall configured rather than turned off.
How do you have your router set up (UPnP enabled, port forwarded or nothing)?
Have you tried enabling UPnP or port forwarding?
Where are you connecting from (home, work, school, student accommodation etc)?
Are you sharing a connection with other computers?
If you're using SP2, have you tried any connections patches (like I mentioned in my last post)?
Who is your ISP?
What version of LW & Java are you using?

Limie369 October 25th, 2006 08:25 PM

I have checked the sticky, I did so before I posted. I don't know enough about my router to mess with it right now, though. I am running SP2 and have not yet tried the patches, but my ISP is some generic system set up by my dorm. I don't think Limewire is blocked, as it worked earlier.

birdy October 25th, 2006 08:59 PM

You might want to check with the school's internet admin to find out if they've changed anything since LW used to work for you. Ask if their policy re p2p has changed. If other people are using LW successfully, find out what steps they took.
A lot of, if not most, schools block p2p.

pingpong September 9th, 2008 02:12 PM

Hello and new. I have an

Ipod or Itunes question. Can I move songs to my ipod or itunes from limewire?
