It starts connecting, but never finishes. Everytime i try to connect it starts connecting, but never gets psat that small bar. I went on the faq page and also followed the steps regarding firewall and port numbers but still have the same problem. Can anyone suggest anything? I am not very computer savvy though, so please try to be patient. |
First of all, make sure that you're only using 1 software firewall (remember that XP has it's own firewall) & that it's set up properly. If you're using XP plus another firewall, disable the XP one. Do this test & see if it works http://www3.limewire.com:6346 Read through this thread, it has heaps of info. It's not too complicated, just go through it slowly. Connection problems? Check here first! Most routers have their own firewall, sometimes that's the problem. So you need to read the bits about enabling UPnP & port forwarding. If you're stuck, answer the questions in post #2 of that thread & post them here:wink: |
ok the test worked. |
If the test works, it means that LW's default port isn't blocked, which is good. See how you go with all that other info & post back with your details if you need more help. |

2. Go to Control Panel, click on Security Centre. You'll see if the Windows firewall is on. Check in the system tray...are there any icons for things like ZoneAlarm, Norton personal firewall etc? Hover your mouse over the icons & you'll see what they're for. You can also check in Add/Remove programs to see if any firewall programs are listed there. 6. Is there a box that your computer's plugged into & that's then plugged into the phone line? Look at all the boxes that plug into your computer. There should be brand names & model numbers on them (you might have to look underneath, too). 9. ISP is your internet service provider. Who do you pay for your internet? 11. Are there other computers in your house that are connected to the internet? Are you using any other file sharing programs like bittorrent, emule, ares...any other programs that let you share files with other people? 13. If you look at the bottom of LW's screen (next to where it's starting connection), you'll see a picture of a blue earth. Is there a brick wall in the picture? Don't worry about the RAM & HDD space for now, it might not matter anyway:) |
