Default Bogus results flooding network?

This does not happen regularly, but when I search for certain files (video files) I will sometimes get an abnormally high number of results back (usually around four-thousand) and I can't connect to any of them. It just says connecting for about five minutes and then classifies the file as "need more sources". When the results are comming back they don't seem to behave normally either. rather than a few results showing up initially and then the number count climbing, each time an entry shows up it already has 80 - 200 results and dosen't usually climb anymore after that. I have the suspcion that because this always happens for particular files, interested parties have set up computers connected the network to return results but not allow anyone to connect to them.

I am connected through a very large (university) LAN with a firewall, however my firewall is set to allow limewire to connect.

I just tried a different search on the forum and saw a few of the tips for fake files, but downloading from sources with only a few hosts (or even one host) produces the same results for me, and bitzi never returns any results for me (although I'm happy to have the long-in-my-mind question of "what the hell is bitzi?" answered). I have also tried searching with slightly different terms and still get the same fake results.

Also, although it appears to be unrelated, most of the time Limewire will only connect to the usual 3 sources. However, sometimes it will continue aquiring new connections until I close the program. And in about half of these instances it will max out one of the two cores of my processor, requiring me to restart the program.

Recognising fake files. Bitzi is a site where people have listed files they're sharing or found & others have left user-feedback. More about bitzi here How to use Bitzi Web Lookup. You can also search the bitzi site.

BTW modem sources can be trusted.

User Cant Connect - LimeWire else manually set it up using these instructions Windows Firewall - LimeWire

Can also see User Cant Connect - LimeWire but it's basically the same as the first link.

Adding An Exception For The LimeWire Program

1. Open the settings of your security program (usually by right-clicking the system tray icon)
2. Locate a section for adding exceptions for specific programs
3. Add LimeWire as an exception (C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe by default on Windows systems)

Adding An Exception For The Gnutella Port

1. Within LimeWire, go to: Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewall Config, and make a note of the listening port located in the box next to "Listen on Port"
2. Open the settings of your security program (usually by right-clicking the system tray icon)
3. Locate a section for adding exceptions for specific ports
4. Add the port specified in LimeWire's settings as an exception for both UDP and TCP, incoming and outgoing (also known as opening the port)

Windows Firewall

LimeWire automatically adds itself to the list of exceptions in the Windows firewall (assuming that the firewall is enabled and an exception does not already exist) when you launch the program. The Windows firewall should not need to be configured. If for some reason, you need to open up a port in the Windows firewall manually or add an exception for LimeWire, or you just want to check and make sure that LimeWire has been added, you may visit the Windows Firewall Instructions page.
