can't find Gnutella/Limewire OS X FIREWALL: To open the OS X Firewall for Gnutella access, please do the following: 1 Open up 'System Preferences' 2 In 'Internet & Network', open 'Sharing'. 3 Select the 'Firewall' tab (your Firewall should be on) 4 Select 'New...' 5 From the 'Port Name' drop down box, select 'Gnutella/LimeWire' 6 Select 'OK' 7 Restart your LimeWire application. I followed this up to number 5, but the drop down box only lists CVS, ICQ, IRC, MSN, Quicktime, Retrospect, SMB (without netbios), Timbuktu, VNC, WBEM, Webstar Admin and Xcode distributed build. Where is Gnutella? |

If it's not there, add it yourself. I re-did the instructions here OSX Firewall settings for Tiger |

6346 is the default port LW uses. However if you have it set to UPnP then the listening port might be different. Open LW, open preferences & go to Advanced -> Firewalls & see what the listening port is. When used in UPnP mode, the listening port can change. It would be helpful if you answered these questions: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...91&postcount=2 |

well, I am actually in a university halls of residence, so I don't know about the router or anything - theres just a hole in the wall. I think the OS X firewall is off (it says so on the system preferences window). I'm not sure what to put in the panels: 'TCP Port Number(s)' and 'UDP Port Number(s)'. I assume 'Description' is incidental (just Gnutella/Limewire or something)? |

Oh ... "university halls of residence" is probably the reason you can't connect. Many schools & school accommodation now stop (block) or shape bandwidth for p2p sharing. Not much more I can advise. |
