The speed issues tend to suggest ISP intervention as I suggested earlier. The firewall issue has me stumped. It may be related to the ISP's filtering program. As said earlier & reports from other forums is your ISP does shape bandwidth for p2p programs.
I woudn't normally recommend this, but disable your XP firewall, restart LW & see if you still get the brick wall.

Shaw don't give you a firewall, do they? Just that some ISPs seem to have a firewall as part of their package.
(that's a stab in the dark)

Just accept things as being as they are with your isp. Proxies won't or are unlikely help with your speeds. At least you can still use LW even though the speeds might suffer.

Sorry vince but I don't want to start another thread... seems like there are a ton of people that are having troubles connecting to limewire. I Port Forwarded as I was told and still no connection. I configured my firewall and I'm not running AVG atm (I don't think it comes equipped with a firewall anyway?) What else is there to do? Oh and UPnP is enabled.

Well yes that may make some difference. But I believe the underlying problem is your isp. They do shape bandwidth against p2p programs. eg: Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work against Gnutella: Bandwidth Shaper Sample - typical of how some ISP's use it (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing.

See if you can find your wrt54g router under the UPnP section here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) & other tips suggested there. I must say, if you only just bought it, see if you can replace it for another Linksys not with the number 54 in it.

Connection problems are user specific. They might be due to software or hardware firewall settings or might be due to their ISP. The connection problems we get in the forums represent about 0.1% or much less of total LW users. I believe close to a mill' download LW everyday.

That guy's problem was due to 2 routers... as far as we know, you're only going through a cable modem. Do you use a router as well? If you do, give us the make & model.
