Default Problems Setting Up

I'm using a GART2-4115 router, and I'm using Tiscali broadband. I'm also running Windows XP sp2.

Anyway, in the past (on Tiscali) I've been able to have download rates of over 100KB/s on shareaza. When I got my new router Shareaza stopped working properly, and my sister said that Limewire was a better programme. I've downloaded Limewire and, while it's actually downloading, it's only managing to get up to 20KB/s (and that's occassionally).

I've spent hours looking at posts on this forum, and I'm no further forwards. I've setup port forwarding on the router and the programme, but it hasn't made any difference. The icon at the bottom shows a brick wall in front of the globe, despite the fact that I'm not using a firewall.

Any ideas?

The brick wall is either due to a software firewall or a modem/router's NAT firewall or other hardware or ISP. Have you seen this? ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire

I actually managed to get rid of the brick wall by enabling UPnP, but it hasn't improved the connection.

Yeah, I've read that. Like I said, I was able to get a good speed out of Shareaza on Tiscali. I've only had this problem since I changed my router, which is why I suspect it's a problem with the settings of the router.

I looked through that too. That's where I got the idea to try UPnP.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Not sure how much more I can help without knowing more. Perhaps some system details will help: System details - help us to help you

When you enabled UPnP did it rid of the brick wall? If not, try changing the listening port to one between 49152 - 65535. A good one to try is 64049. ie: go to LimeWire's menu bar, Tool menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Firewalls & you'll see the options. You can see where from here Manual port forward instructions & sample image

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
Windows XP sp2, as stated before.

2. What firewalls you have?
None, as stated before.

3. How much ram?
496MB (though it's not particularly relevant as my sister has the same problems on her computer)

4. Hard Disk space available?
201GB

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
Broadband, as stated before.

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
GART2-4115 as mentioned before.

7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
Home.

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
LimeWire 4.12.6
Java 1.5.0_06

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?
Tiscali as stated before.

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
It works.

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
I'm sharing the connection with my sister's PC, and my Mam's laptop. They all connect via the router.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
This is my first try.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
I did, but enabling UPnP got rid of it.

I've only just been able to access this forum, it kept stopping me from accessing the page after my last post.

In every other respect Tiscali has been good. I was able to achieve good speeds on Shareaza, it's been since I got this new router that it's started.

I read the first one, I'm reading the second one now.

Thanks.

I'm managing to get speeds up to 60KB/s at the moment, so it's doing better than it was.

My connection has started to go unstable now whenever I put LimeWire on. I've read through all the information I could find on this forum, but I don't know what the problem is.

Do you use a USB modem/router? If yes, that might be why. Ethernet is much faster & doesn't use power from the computer as some usb devices do. USB sometimes can't handle heavy loads.
