Help Shows i have one green bar! I have used limewire before on this computer. Recently my laptop crashed and ive had to re input everything back on to my computer. My limewire says that i only have 1 green bar. 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows xp 2. What firewalls you have? Mcafee (which is on), and Windows Security (which i have shut off) 3. How much ram? i dont really know 4. Hard Disk space available? 2 gig 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Wireless (arimba) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? home 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. limewire 4.12.6 Java 1.5.0_09 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? i have wireless so i think arimba 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? says "your test worked" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.well technically arimba is a unsecure internet connection 12. Is this a your 1st try at FW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. new problem. Limewire has always worked for me im just wondering what has happened and i dont want to think it is my computer 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of FW's interface?yes but i have the firewall allowing limewire always Hope somene can help!  |
I'm having the same problem. I only have one green bar and it tells me I'm not entirely connected to the network. I have allowed Gnuttella as an exception throught my firewall. Last night, I was finally able to get one song. I actually had four green bars and now again I only have one. Hmmm, if anyone can help, let me know! |
im really hoping someone can help |

Are you connecting from an apartment? Double check your XP firewall config. You could try changing to a higher port, say 64049. You'll have to change LW's listening port (tools > options > advanced > firewall config) & apply to save the change. Now change port numbers allowed within your XP firewall to the same number as the LW listening port. See if that makes any difference. |
yea arimba im trying to connect from an apartment. im trying to figure out why it worked before and not now. i changed my port on lw but how do i change it for my mcafee firewall. i have shut off my xp firewall. |
Answered by PM with a link to McAfee & advice to talk to whoever looks after the apartment's internet if changing ports is no help. |
ive tried the mcafee thing i have shut off my xp and i still only have one green bar. only now i have flashing at the bottom of my limewire 0 the 1 dowloads but always at 0 kbs and it oly flashes for like a sec. help please |
please help someone ive tried everything i still cant get it past one bar. i just dont understand how it has always worked before but now that my computer has crashed i cant get it to work. what can i do? is it my computer?? what??? |
Try changing your connection port also. Not just your listening port. Other ports you might risk trying; 80, 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 10000, 15189, 19515, 25079, 20282, 22817, 443, 427, 34599, 40475, 65530, 52343, 51002, 50012. |
Is it possible that your ISP (internet service provider) has blocked some sites such as Gnuttella or Lime Wire? I have a cable internet connection and wonder if its impossible to connect to LimeWire because your ISP won't allow it? |

OS Version: Windows XP 2005 Windows Firewall RAM: dont know exactly Hard disk space: not sure, new comp, desktop Connection type: Cable Modem and router name brands: don't know Trying to connect from home. Version of java and limewire: 4.12.6 (limewire) and 1.5.0_09 (java) ISP: WHTV (Whitehorse TV a/o Northern Television Systems Test: Internet says page cannot be displayed No, I'm not sharing with any other p2p sharing programs. I've used LW on someone else's comp but this is a brand new comp so i don't have much experience with it. I do see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon. I was able to download one song and there was no brick wall in front of the icon and I had 4 green bars. There is a brick wall there again for some reason and now I'm not connecting. I wish I can answer all of the questions and I like to think I'm somewhat knowledgeable with computers but some of this is kinda not my forte! |
Someone else using WHTV recently had a problem too, but I don't think it was followed through. They may or may not be blocking p2p (check link below) http://www.woolsock.ca/geeklove/2006...have_some.html If your test page can't be displayed, something's blocking the default LW port. You could try changing ports to a higher one, say 64049. You'll have to change LW's listening port (tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Apply to save a change) & also any ports allowed within your software firewall. You'll need to find out your router's brand & model as it might be useful when trying to get rid of that firewall;) Have a look on the router & also underneath. |
Whtv Well, it turns out I called WHTV as an "anonymous" caller and they told me that yes they do block p2p (u should let ppl know what p2p is - "peer 2 peer?" sharing). They say it is because of the bandwith used in p2p. So, that means they don't support it or block it. Now, I doubt there's anyway around it unless I switch ISPs. Ya think? That really sucks, I would've liked to know that before I got set up with them. |
If they block p2p, then you might be a bit stuffed...I doubt changing ports would help. Check the thread below, you might find something to help but no guarantees! http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=32882 Switching ISP is the obvious fix but it depends on whether you signed a contract for a specified term...you might end up having to pay a fee to get out of the contract. If you do go looking for a new ISP, check their Acceptable Use Policy or Fair Access Policy (sometimes this info is found in general Terms & Conditions too). That will often tell you whether the ISP is anti p2p. Google the ISP & search for these policies, often the customer service people won't give you a straight answer or aren't aware that it's going on:wink: You could also add WHTV to this thread of providers who block/filter p2p...might help someone in the future. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33712 |
Up until 2 days ago I had no problem with connecting to limewire. Now, the dreaded firewall symbol is showing and I can't access it. Tried suggestions outlined in this forum but to no avail. Any more ideas? ISP provider is AAPT. |
Check the 1st page to know what information we need to be able to help you. AAPT is Aussie right? AFAIK no aussie isp's block or specifically shape p2p programs, but they will shape your overall bandwidth if you go past your maximum allowable download maximum. Generally down to about dial up or double dial up speed. |
Thanks LOTR. Problem is now rectified. I uninstalled limewire and then downloaded latest version. |
ok still nothings working i have no connection to limewire but it says my computer has a NAT something or another and that my ip adress goes through a buch of computers. |

You said it is a wireless connection you have. AFAIK All wireless devices have internal NAT firewalls. So either enable UPnP in the device if it supports UPnP & hoping that its UPnP implementation is reliable. Or else, forward a port on the device. You need to be more specific about the device brand & model. Do you connect thru AOL. Try to by-pass AOL if possible. Too many people have problems connecting p2p via AOL. I have discovered your ISP is specifically AIRIMBA from Texas. You were not sure at 1st. |
