sorry i am not very good with computers so i'm not sure , whats wot so i wasnt able to do all the questions. 1. OS version? windows xp 2. What firewalls you have? i'm not sure i have norton antivirus is that a firewal? 3. How much ram?where do i find that out 4. Hard Disk space available also where do u find that out? 5. Connection type? i am halls and residence and i have a cable to a socket. 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers/ whats that? 7. Where are you trying to connect from :student accomadation 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? lime wire 4.12.6 the basic one . 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?how do u find that out? 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?it says test worked. 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? what does that mean we all have connection in our rooms , which then outside there is a box where it all connects to? 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. just downloaded it. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?whats that? |
13. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1162908502 Most schools & school residences do some type of blocking or shaping of bandwidth for p2p programs. But at least they haven't blocked port 6346 which LW normally uses. So what you need to do is configure your XP firewall: Firewall configuration instructions (click on link). You will find it in your control panel. Check to see if there's any norton firewall also. |
i see a brick wall infront of the planet thing.. what does that mean?? |
also the firewall config i did earlier and nothing worked still. |
That probably means there's an external firewall you have no control over that goes to the school or residence before it gets to you. Try changing the listening port in LW to 64049. ie: go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port there. Then press apply. Perhaps disconnect & reconnect from the file menu. Unfortunately there may be no easy answer when it comes connecting thru a school or school residence. |
