Brick wall, but everything seems fine Evidently I'm behind a firewall, beacause I have the brick wall icon. I am using Mac OS X, and my firewall is OFF, and always has been since day one. As far as I know I am not using a router. I just have a simple Qwest DSL modem with wireless gateway. (What is wireless gateway? Is it some sort of router, or firewall?) Everything seems to work fine. I get all 5 green bars, and I can download things fairly well (24-25kbs). So I guess I want to know, what's causing the brick wall? Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance |

Thanks for the quick reply. It is an Actiontec GT701-WG with wireless gateway. http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/mo...x.html#general Like I said, everything seems to be running fine. But maybe I can increase performance somehow, no matter how slight, if I can make the brick wall go away?? |

Here's the link to Port Forward your Modem/Router, follow the instructions carefully and you should see the firewall disappear... http://www.portforward.com/english/r...G/Limewire.htm

Before I do this, I have to ask myself, "should I?" Will I notice a considerable increase in download speed? What will be the overall advantages? I don't mind if the brick wall is there as long as things are running smoothly. Thanks |

Well, in the Limewire FAQ section, it clearly states some firewalls are okay. http://www.limewire.org/wiki/index.p...Questions#fir1 But if anyone knows how much of a performance boost I can get without the firewall, if any, I would much appreciate it. Thank you |

It may make a difference and then it may not...You should do an online speed test to see if it will or not, if your speeds from that indicate a better performance speed then maybe you should Port Forward.... Firewalls can also stop you from sharing your files and direct connect is out of the question as well... Use this link to do a speed test... http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?more=1 Let us know how it goes...
