Norton spyware vs Limewire I just noticed that my norton internet security package also came with spyware protection. Does this effect my ability to connect to limewire? If so, how do I turn it off so the red brick wall can leave and LW can work properly??? Last edited by RLC; November 11th, 2006 at 03:09 PM. |

It depends upon what type of spyware protection it is. I know some spyware companies have joined forces with other AV companies but not sure which. Spyware programs don't normally act as firewalls per se. Check this Configuring Norton Internet Security. Whatever you do, don't run XP firewall & norton firewall together. They clash resulting in less security, not more. It also causes LW problems so disable XP's firewall in the control panel. If you still have a firewall problem it may be a NAT firewall within your router/modem. So enabling UPnP on the device will hopefully overcome that if this is the problem. |

The rule on my norton firewall pertaining to LW is as follows: Action: allow direction: outbound computer: any communications: any protocol: tcp and udp Are these settings correct and also how do I enable UPnP on my modem: (Motorola SBG900) and/or computer? |

I don't have Norton AV so I can't confirm the settings. Someone else could. As for your device, I'm not sure if your device supports UPnP. You'd need to telnet into it & check to see if it does have the option. If not, then forwarding a port is the answer. Port forward instructions are here Port Forwarding for the Motorola SBG 900; Telnet address is http://192.168.100.1 |

I'm using a rather old version of NPF, but those settings look correct, except for maybe the outbound...should be both outbound and inbound...

I connect directly to my modem, and there is no firewall built in..RoadRunner...XP MCE... try this..first disable automatic internet configuration of programs in NPF..then manually go in and delete all references to LW and Java..(while LW is off of course)...then start up LW and say yes and always to the questions NPF will ask...

What should i put in the following fields: Port ID: Enable: Allowed protocol (drop down box): IP, UDP, TCP, or UDP/TCP Port range: Protocol number: Allow Inbound (checkbox) should i check this? Allow Outbound (checkbox) should i check this? |
