Firewall or loopback connections blocking limewire? I have used limewire many times in the past, and have never had a problem. However, I recently reinstalled windows xp, and it wont open. When I click the icon on the dektop, it states " Limewire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire" I have reinstalled it numerous times, configued my firewall to allow LimeWire, and it still won't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

You shouldn't have no software firewall. It should be turned on but properly configured to allow LW full access; (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) The Loopback scenario is generally related to a router/modem that has a NAT firewall. The answer is to enable UPnP if it supports it, or else forward a port; Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) |

3. It looks like perhaps you have the option to show that icon turned off. You'll find it under LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Status Bar |
