Odd Connection Hello all, I'm a long-time Limewire user. I've been using it for several years now, but just recently, since my old computer crashed and I got a new one, I've been having a bad connection issue. I can turn the connection on, and then it may work for a little while, but it's very unstable. Searches can vary, from full results that I would regularly expect, to absolutely no results at all. I don't know why the connection keeps just diving.... Once I've started a download, the download works fine, but I just can't do any searches. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. Specs: Windows XP Media Center Edition 2048MB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE+ AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ Connection is; Motorola SB5100 SURFboard Cable Modem I don't know if any of that helps, but it's there just in case.... Also, I've noticed that my Default Gateway in my networking list often disappears, and I have to do a network repair to fix it.... Don't know what's up with this.... |
http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php read that page..I suspect the tcp/ip settings on your new system are not optimal.. |
Eh, thanks but it didn't work for me. I used the TCP Optimizer tool, but it didn't seem to change anything, I still receive an unstable connection. |
Who is your isp? What speed plan are you on? Try downloading a magnet link from here & tell us what happens: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml Also, do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) Have a look at this MS & 3rd party patches |
I have Eastlink: High Speed Internet service. As I say, it always used to work fine until I got this new computer. Note, my internet service has not changed, just the computer. There is no brick wall in front of the world icon in LW, because I'm not running a firewall currently. It was the first thing I tried when my internet started acting up a few weeks ago, though it didn't do anything. I could download the magnet link just fine, it launched into LW, and started downloading at speeds of around 50-90KB's, though right now it says Waiting on Busy Hosts.... I don't know if that's because of my connection or not. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my Default Gateway, and possibly various other things on the network.... I ran an analyzer before when I had the problem, and it always detected that my Default Gateway was not present, and had to be fixed, thus I had to run my "Repair" function. Sometimes my internet just doesn't work at all when I first turn on my computer, and I have to repair it. I think this probably correlates to the problem I'm having with Limewire.... |
Just bumping this thread, since I still need help. Thanks >.> |
I'm lost on this one sorry. I'd be curious to know whether you'd have the same problem with another gnutella program. If you're willing to try, Phex to see if you have the same problems. It does sound like a set up issue with your gateway. |
I tried with Shareza or whatever it's called before. It uses Gnutella, and it didn't work for me. I thought maybe there was just something wrong with Limewire, so I started trying to use other programs, but the connection with Shareza was even worse, it wouldn't connect hardly at all. I'll give Phex a try anyway. Alright, so I gave Phex a try. It didn't work. All the connections at the front page just said Error Connecting, one of them said "Error 503 Connecting". It just keeps trying to reconnect, though it can't. |
Bumped again, sorry. Well, strangely enough now, the connection on Phex has picked up. All of the connections are now Ultrapeer connections. I'm not sure whether or not that shows anything about my problem or not though. Ahh, I really wish I could get this Default Gateway stuff fixed up.... |
