Firewall still blocking??

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it says the test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? no
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. explained below

I used Limewire on my old computer with no problems at all. When I got my new computer (it's not even 2 months old yet) I downloaded and tried to connect to Limewire, but it keeps telling me my firewall is blocking it. I've gone through all the steps and opened the ports to allow LM to bypass my firewall and still no luck. I tried turning my firewall completely off just to see if maybe I had done something wrong and it was still blocking, but even with the firewall OFF the brickwall is still in front of the globe. Then I thought it might be my connection blocking it somehow since I was on dial up the last time I used LM. I disconnected my T1 and logged on with dial up using AOL as I'd done in the past but STILL it's telling me a firewall is blocking LM from connecting. (I don't use AOL when connected to the T1 line, I just use Firefox to browse the net.) I'm completely out of ideas at this point. Can anyone offer any other suggestions?? :confused:

What's the brand & model of your modem/router? These very often have their own internal firewall:wink:
Also, who is your ISP (who do you pay for your internet use)?

Don't run without a firewall, just make sure your XP firewall is configured properly.

If the software firewall's not the problem, it's likely to be coming from your modem/router.

My D-Link says AirPlusG DWL -G122, not sure if that's the info you need. As for my ISP, it's a small local business called UpHi.net. I live in a rural area and they're the only option for high speed out here.

i have the same problem and need some help:( everything is EXACTLY the same, and my isp is telstra, and i have bigpond broadband. oh, and my modem is a thompson speedtouch 536, hope that wat u want.

D-link you have the option of UPnP or port forward. I don't know that model, but most d-links do better port forwarded. See the UPnP section & look for Di-Link to find out how to enable UPnP: Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) I presume you're using windows XP. If yes, make sure your XP firewall is configured to allow LW full access: Firewall configuration instructions (click on link). Your model should support UPnP. Let's hope it's a reliable implementation of UPnP. If you go here http://www.portforward.com/english/r...6/Limewire.htm you will see UPnP option under games & sharing. If this is not the same as your model, then you may have V.5, in which case look under Thompson here for your model http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm
Keep in mind those are port forward instructions which is the alternative to UPnP. But it does at least show you how to telnet into your device & where to find some of the options.

Modems/routers such as yours have internal NAT firewalls. UPnP will allow LW to request the modem to open a port when needed. Port forwarding is manually opening a port so it's always open when LW is open. (UPnP isn't always reliable depending on brand, etc.)

Just to add...

Lilmissfoxxy, I think that device is a wireless USB adapter. Is there a router that you connect through? Maybe in another room?
