No connection on any P2P network!

Please Help!

I'm unable to connect to any newtwork! I can't even get into the program(s)
LimeWire, 360 SharePro, Utorrent!??

I'm running Windows XP SP2, MaAcfee.
I have checked every program I have (even wen tinto sub folders) and uninstalled any/all security programs (old/new)
I not only configured all of the above w/McAfee's Firewall, I uninstalled McAfee all together and still no connection.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled all of the above programs numerous x's!? Nada.

I really don't see the point in configuring Windows Firewall when I have it "Turned Off" all together but I did put all of them on the "Exceptions" tab/list just in case. Still blocked!

I've called my ISP several x's and they assure me they are not blocking any program (I did specifiy LImeWire to them)not any port. But it seems like every time I mention the "P" word they seem to go into a silent panic!

Is there one caring soul out here willing to do an "intervention" to prevent me from committing myself to an IP Psych. facility because I CAN'T CONNECT!?
please?:)

Oh...sorry, I have a Dell /DImension Desktop. No other computers are hooked up to me and I do NOT have a router. I have a single Speedstream 5100 modem. DSL. That's it! Pretty simple you'd think.:o

I'd say it's a matter of the NAT Firewall in your modem...In the link I have provided you are the instructions to Port Forward your modem (speedstream 5100) follow them closely, if you need any more help just let us know...:rolleyes_2:

kareng422 December 8th, 2006 11:06 AM

Thanx Why!
I'll give it a shot. Hope you're right!! ;-)

kareng422 December 8th, 2006 11:13 AM

Why,
Ive been through the whole "port" forwarding and when it got to where it says I need a " Static IP" address I got stuck and called my ISP. They told me that Static IP is when you have "multilple" PC's, for those who have a network(I don't) and that it costs big $$$ to obtain one anyway???! FYI: I never had a conneciton problem until about 2 weeks ago when I went to open my "Etomi Pro", which i've been running for about 1 1/2 years, and received that "can not connect...firewall etc..)and I called and they the "musicmembersarea.com" support areas(I am a paid member but they can't find me!)advised Etomi was obsolete. 360Share.pro tooks its place, so they downloaded a link 4-me to install 360Share Pro. Still no conneciton and then LImeWire and this story goes on and on.
Did I receive correct info. from my ISP about Static IP's?

kareng422 December 8th, 2006 11:15 AM

p.s.- I have Jave Rintime 5_ update 09
I have the 06, then was told to upgrade for LImeWire to 09. I've uninstalled/reinstalled Java numerous x's as well.

No their full of crap...I don't have a network either, I've had the same modem as you, and the one I have now I had to Port Forward as well...

These guys are a scam site "musicmembersarea.com" they charge you for software that is free...
You can only get the official Limewire from http://www.limewire.com

wondering why December 8th, 2006 11:21 AM

I'd say get rid of the version of LW that you have...There is no limewire 9...What they have made you pay for is probably full of spyware....Demand your money back....

Back to your static IP, you don't pay for it, if you follow the instructions that I provided you you will create one...

wondering why December 8th, 2006 11:28 AM

kareng422....I just have to duck out for about half an hour, i haven't deserted you I will be back to help....

kareng422 December 8th, 2006 11:32 AM

Thanx again Why.
That was the link they sent but it was for the LimeWirePro 4.12.6 but same link.
Unfortunately I need to run out but I don't want to loose any advice you may offer because I am literally pulling hair out of my head with this one! If you help me resolve this you'll get a HUGE gold star for the day! ;-)
Right now LImeWire is uninstalled. I'll use the link you sent.
Oh...how do I get past the Static IP thing??Do I need a Static IP? If it's essential then how am I going to obtain one when my ISP stands by their "you need a network and it costs big $$$" They also said it takes a couple of days to obtain a Static IP as well.
And thanx for the tip on the musicmembersarea.com. I found out the hard way. Isn't that just the way life goes sometimes! :-O
Hey, I really do appreciate your advice BIGTIME! THANX!

So they gave you Pro not Basic....Pro does cost $18.88US...If you download from the link I gave you, you will only get the basic version and that's free, but it is legit...
Did your version have this at the top
Attachment 3255

Now onto the static IP, I don't know what your ISP is on about, getting a static IP doesn't cost, unless they want to do it for you and charge you...I really don't think the customer service people know what their talking about, or their trying to scare you out of it...
Doing it yourself is not at all hard and you don't have to wait a couple of days for it either....
Follow the steps in the link I gave...Write down the stuff it says to write down and enter that info into the places it says to enter it, it all looks technical but it's not...

btw... who is your ISP....

Sleepless December 8th, 2006 01:45 PM

Just to clarify. Some ISPs charge extra for a static IP (A global static IP). The static IP you need to have is a Local Static IP.

You can still have a Local static IP, even if your global is dynamic (just ask WW :laugh_2: )

You do need to get the DNS server numbers (two IP addresses) from your ISP though, and if they give you crap about that, then you give them the hard time. I think they are even obligated to give them out to customers when asked.

And WW is right, if they told you those things, they have no idea what they are talking about.

wondering why December 8th, 2006 01:49 PM

I actually had never heard of being charged, thanks sleepless...:xeri_ok1ani:

With the DNS server numbers aren't they already supplied...I found them when I followed the static IP instructions, I never had to ring my ISP...

kareng422 December 8th, 2006 03:17 PM

hey! You're back! :-)

I originally signed up ( way,way back) with Mp3dowloading.com (that was/is their name) and then it changed from that to Etomi Pro>360SharePro & LimeWire. That's the order of how I got to where I'm at now. No where! LOL! Sorry...I'm getting a little "anxious"...frustrated actually. So much work when everything was working perfectly then bamm! It's over? Just like that? Because why again?? I"m sorry, I missed that...why do things like this happen out of no where???
O.k. sorry...venting! ;-) It's not your fault Why!

Any way I thank you for your help! I'm almost positive that where you're sending me I've already been to. (Boy that sounds bad if taken out of text!:-) )and I get to a specific spot where I have no choice to call my IP and beg for some #'s that you (and the rest of the world) say should be very "available" and easy to obtain...and that's including a Static IP? They simply won't even discuss it. I've asked for supervisors and I got news for ya....no better.
Any way why...I'm going to do my best and I'll send you a post either way,k?I apprreciate your going out of your way to see that I get ALL the information and that's rare these days. TRUST ME!

So I'm departing on my journey into "

Oh, Sleepless agrees with you wholeheartedly. Read his post

wondering why December 8th, 2006 03:27 PM

Don't mention the Static IP to customer support, just ask them for the DNS server numbers, as Sleeplees said they have to give them to you...They aren't the ones who supply the static IP to you....
As Sleepless knows my IP number changes all the time, it's hard to keep up with it...:D

You get directed to the free limewire site because that's what they offer and charge you for it...That's why they are known as scam sites...

Can you tell me if you actually had the Pro version or the basic version of LW..
Also who is your ISP....

kareng422 December 8th, 2006 03:30 PM

Thanx!

All I aksed for when I got their tech. support was if they would/could provide me with an IP address and a Static IP . The tech froze! He asked me to repeat what exactly it was I was looking for and I mentioned the "IP" address...that he gave me, then I asked for a "static IP" and nothing. I thought the call got dropped or something but no. He needed to check with his supervisor and put me on hold and then came back and told me was near impossible and the cost was way too expensive(his words btw).
So what you're saying is be very specific when I call my ISP back as to Local vs.Global static IP correct?
I'm going to give this one more try before I quit on this "project" for the night...only to be picked up again this time tomorrow right! UGH! this isn't fun for us "self taught" little folk out here.Unlike you and WW!
BUt I really do appreciate your help for sure!
I'll keep you posted!

Don't say anything about static IP numbers ask for the DNS server numbers, when you have them you can enter them where the instructions tell you to...

kareng422 December 8th, 2006 03:42 PM

I know I'm reading/responding to these out of order. Sorry! ;'(
O.K. got it. DNS server #')s?) only. Is there more then one DNS server #'s and if so how many am I asking for??
I have the LimeWire Pro 4.12.6. 360 SharePro Uttorrent(?) not sure what Uttorrents all about. I can't connect on that either but it's a little different then the other 2.
I don't run all at once. Well I'm not running anything at the moment but they do interfere sometimes with each other so I only keep one installed at a time. I don't know if that's necessary.

sbcglobal.net is my ISP.
I just thought of something...if I'm low on memory (RAM) would that be a factor of not being able to connect? Thought I read something a while back about memory in relation to all these networks/sites.
Check back with me when you can. I really, really, really appreciate all the help you and Sleepless have offered. It doesn't get any better then this...does it??? ;-)

Ohh. I had no idea that some people do see their DNS server number by using ipconfig /all

Sorry for saying that you have to call your ISP for them. You should of course try if they can be seen there first.

I had to call my ISP for mine. It didn't have any DNS numbers before that.

I was in no way trying to mislead you and I'm very sorry if I did :o

I had the same problem!!!

Karen!! I had the EXACT same problem as you. Started with MP3Downloading and through all the others, ended up at Limewire. I finally just moved all my music to a general folder on my Hard drive and uninstalled and deleted every music downloader I had. Restarted my computer and went to Limewire.com. I disabled my Norton Anti-virus and I got the Limewire 4.12.11 Pro version. Followed everything to the T AND IT WORKED!!!! After I downloaded a song to make sure I wasnt seeing things, I put my AntiVirus back on and everything was fine. I went through the same crap as you and was in tears because I could not get straight answers or ANY answers what so ever. I hope this helps ( I do realize you were having issues back in December...me too!!).
Hope it works for you as easy as it worked for me. I had to do NOTHING with my ISP or #'s.
:)

kareng422 March 4th, 2007 06:51 AM

thanks!

Back in Feb. about 80% of my software was taken out by a virus so I nuked my entire system and started from scratch. I did back up the LImewire pro. though and reinstalled. It did work! I'm not sure if it was a virus all along that preventing me from connecting ( I doubt it)but I'm sure it didn't help matters at the very least.Talk about a frustrating journey! Glad you're up and running! Thanks for the advice.I'm sure many will benefit!:)
