absolutely no luck with connecting limewire hey guys, just posting this msg as I'm at the end of my tether, I've tried absolutely everything to get limewire connected and absolutely nothing is working. I have used limewire in the past and it's been fine but I've recently moved to a new ISP called "Be", I started using limewire with this new ISP on friday and it was working fine for about an hour then there was only one green bar at the bottom, since then I have not been able to get a connection with limewire whatsoever apart from one bar which is useless. There have been some occassional times where it has gone up to three bars but this is still useless as I cant get any search results or download anything. I've basically tried everything from port forwarding to checking if my router is UPnP enabled to changing the port on the advanced section of LW section and absolutely nothing is working. Anyway heres all my settings, really hope someone can help me out, thanks  1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall Only 3. How much ram? 256 4. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Yes sharing with two other computers on a router 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. A new problem with an experienced user 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Sometimes its there, sometimes it isnt |
You might want to check with your new ISP and see if they shape or throttle p2p...It could be a matter of certain times of the day...:rolleyes_2: |
yeah i've checked with my isp and they dont block isp's as mine was briefly working and another person in my house who is plugged into the same router can connect to limewire fine, any other suggestions guys im really gettin desperate.... |
Have you enable UPnP ?? Also try changing your listening port to something between 49152 - 65535.. Make sure the two of you are using different listening ports.. Did you both Port Forward ?? If so did you both use separate static IPs Let us know how that goes...:rolleyes_2: |
the UPnP is enabled, i've changed the listening ports and they're both different, i've done port forwarding and everything else that has been suggested, i had a full five bars for a couple of hours yesterday but today i logged on and only got three bars, and that gradually dropped to one bar and now i've lost the connection, I dont understand why there is so much inconsistency in the connection, has anyone got any drastic measures? |
I'm stummped...Are you sure you Port Forwarded correctly and where did you get the instructions to do so ???...Can you give me the link so I can have a look..:rolleyes_2: |
i cant remember but i done port forwarding through the settings of the router or something, but basically the latest situation is that limewire will connect after i reset to the default settings but after a few hours the connection will go again, any ideas on how to solve this inconsistent connection? |
plz ppl help me out, im getting really frustrated, i seem to be having a problem that seems quite common on the message board, limewire doesnt connect except on some occassions and when it does, it will lose the connection after a few hrs, i have supplied all my system details above, i cant find how to do port forwarding for a speedtouch 780, even though i dont know if it'll work because nothing seems to be working right now, plz plz plz help me out! |
Here's the user guide for your router http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/documentation/ST780WL/R610/UserGuide/HTML/SIP/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm?single=false&context=ug&topic=init Just from having a quick look, it seems very similar to this one listed on the port forward site http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Thomson-Alcatel/SpeedTouch536/Limewire.htm Have a look through & compare them...if things look the same, you could follow the instructions for the SpeedTouch536. Don't forget to set up a static IP address first. You'll find a link for that within the portforward instructions. |
thanks for that help with the port forwarding, sadly it doesnt seem to have made a difference, if anything i havent been able to get a connection for a few days which is the worst its been, im rapidly running out of ideas here and im about to give up, plz guys help me out :aweof: |
Did the static IP setup go ok? If the other computer's port forwarded, you'll have to have a different static IP than the other one has. Did you make sure that your port forwarded within the router was the same as LW's listening port & the port in the 'manual port forward' field within LW's firewall config? All those port numbers have to be the same. Is your listening port different to the listening port of the other computer? Don't use the same port number for both. Try using port 64049 & see what happens. |
i cant set up static ip because i hav to pay for that privelige to my isp. I have set all the ports to the same number on port forwarding and still no luck, i've checked that im not using the same port number as the other guys on the router and still absolutely no luck. Thanks alot for all ur help guys but it really looks like we're running out of ideas cos nothing is working, does anyone have any other suggestions other than the ones i have already tried. Thanks |
You don't have to get your ISP to organise a static IP for you (AFAIK it's expensive to do that). You can set up a static IP on your computer that your router will recognise. All you need is some info about default gateway, DNS servers etc...have you tried the instructions here? http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm I have a static IP set up for my port forwarding...my normal IP address still changes as it usually would. The static IP is just for port forwarding purposes. If you don't see DNS info, your ISP will be able to give you that. You don't have to say anything about static IPs etc, just ask for your DNS server info. Without a static IP port forwarding won't work for your router. |
i've followed the instructions and set up the static ip, and still absolutely no luck. Its so frustrating because bittorrent and ares are connecting fine most of the time, its only limewire that isnt working, i've absolutely run out of ideas....... |
