How Can I Get Back To Limewire 4.10 Basic? Please help! Hi all, I have been running Limewire 4.10 Basic for months with absolutely no problems. Then I got bored with wrapping all of the stacks of Christmas presents and decided to take a break and download some new music for my daughter. I got sick of that icon popping up telling me about the update to Limewire 4.12 and clicked on it to perform the upgrade. Since then I cannot seem to connect at all. I have been reading through posts and looks like others are having similar problems with 4.12 and are suggesting just returning to the old 4.10 version and uninstalling 4.12. But, not being a particularly computer savvy person, I have absolutely no idea how to do this. I searched my files and can only find the new 4.12 - does anyone know if 4.10 would still be on there somewhere and if so how I can go about finding it? I did check a bunch of the other stuff that the help screen told me to do - uninstalled and then reinstalled java reader, double checked to make sure that limewire was an exception on my firewall, all that jazz. I just want to get back to what I had before as it seems to be a bug in 4.12 that others are experiencing. Does anyone have any ideas of how they could help? It would be much appreciated - thanks!!!!!!!!! Lilly, who doesn't know too much about computers! |
Hi again, tried to answer all of these basic questions so that someone can more easily help me - 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) I have Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 2. What firewalls you have? I have Windows firewall, which is turned on but with Limewire listed as an exception. I also have McAfee Personal Firewall Plus. 3. How much ram? 0.99 GB of RAM 4. Hard Disk space available? Dell Dimension DM051, Intel (R), Pentium (R), 4CPU 300 GHz 2.99 GHz (I hope I answered that one right, probably too much information!) 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Dial-Up 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Intel (R) 537EPV9x DFPC1 Model attached to COM3 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire 4.12.6 and Java 1.5.0.09 I just updated to Limewire 4.10, which used to connect and run with absolutely no problems. I then updated Java hoping it would help... 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Galaxy 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It said the test worked 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No I don't believe so 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Experienced user, new problem since update to 4.12. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes I hope this additional information helps out - thanks in advance! |
First of all, turn off the windows firewall. You should not run two firewalls at the same time. Try installing the 4.13 Beta. The problems should be fixed in that one: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml |
I will try installing the 4.13 beta now. I already disabled the Windows firewall after reading a bunch of these threads. My husband put the McAfee on my computer and I guess he forgot to take off the Windows firewall. Be right back after I give it a try - thanks! |
I just tried installing the 4.13 beta using the link you had given me but still no luck, I just keep getting the same error message about Limewire not being connected. I am now thinking that for some reason my McAfee firewall is blocking the Limewire connection but I don't know how to fix the problem, and the online McAfee help is basically of no help. Any ideas? |
You could try turning the McAfee Firewall off for a little while, just to check if it's in fact the root of your problem. I have never tried McAffe myself so I can't really be of much help there. Since you use Dial-Up and there is a brickwall in Limewire, it's most likely one your your firewalls blocking access to the network. Another thing you could try is in Limewire going to Tools-->Options-->Advanced-->Firewall Config and choose manual Portforward. Then enter 6346 in that box and also in the box for the Listening port number on the same page. Also try disconnecting and reconnecting Limewire after you give it time to settle down. Maybe even cancel all pending downloads. |
I just went in and changed the firewall configuration page to manual portforward 6346 and listening port to 6346 - and looks like it worked!!! Thank you so, so much for all of your help, my children would have been most upset to wake up and find out that Mommy messed with Limewire and broke it. Hopefully this will work again tomorrow as I am literally falling asleep at the computer. Thanks again......... Lilly |
