Version 2.0.6 should fix several of the problems everyone is experiencing. Look for it soon!

Default more search results

A beta version of LimeWire 2.1.0 is now available and should dramatically increase the number of search results for leaf nodes. More information at http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...&threadid=7022

Wow! What a mess.

Thanks, limewire, for keeping up the good work.

I have to admit that at face value, the new LW really is disappointing.

Since I found this forum I've learned enough to mellow out and wait for more people to start using the new version.

I used to like seeing mow many tetrabites of files were available, and how many hosts I was connected to. But in the end it's how the program does what I want it to do that counts.

As it stands, I'm able to get the files I want, and they seem to download faster. I used to have to shut the connection to the network off to get decent d/l speeds. Now I can stay connected (and feel less stingy with my files) and enjoy faster d/; speeds.

To be honest, I am downloading the older version of lw again. I'm really debating about switching back..... but I just can't get over the faster speeds for me.

Now that I understand what ultrapeer is all about I just may stay with this new version.

Watching what happens, I don't beleave that the Ultrapeet does really a lot of work.

In older versions, at this time (02:00 GMT) the upload queue was always full. Now 0 uploaders are active. They cannot find my files. And I cannot find the files of others. My impression is that the ultrapeer concept doesn't work.

Hermann

I decided to try 2.1.0, but as far as I can tell it is even worse than the 2.0.5 version that I recently removed. Now I connect to 3 Ultrapeers (and often times don't end up with more than 50 total hosts), and get NO search results. I have once or twice found ONE match that I cannot download. This is after an hour of being connected to the network. I can load up Xolox and do the same search after no wait period and have 24 results - searching for the exact same thing. I am pretty much given up on Limewire. I will check back sometime in the future to see if it is ever actually going to work.

Tru:

He's not the only one. It's kind of sad, really. I _DO_ understand the Ultrapeer concept. But results talk, don't they? And my results are completely negative. Since "upgrading" from 1.7 (never did install any of the AssWare that came with 1.8 and onwards) to 2.02 Pro I have gotten exactly ZERO files. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. That's sad.

2.0.5 beta didn't help. I _found_ a few files, but couldn't get any of them. Oh, well.

Will 2.1.0 beta help? I'm not willing to find out because I don't use programs with ads in them. Trojan or no Trojan.

So until 2.1.0 Pro comes out (if it ever does), I'm using 1.7 - and yes, I know that's detrimental to the progress of the network. Tough. I'm not going to use a "better protocol" on principal when I can't get ANY files through that "better protocol".

I'm not bitching you out, I'm simply trying to explain my point of view. If the new system simply returned LESS hits but I could still GET files, I wouldn't care. The problem is that usually the new system returns NO hits, and when it does I can't GET ANY files. That's not progress, not even in theory.

I addresssed everyone here with a plural "you". Perhaps I should have been more concise and applied more broadly by saying "you guys".

1.7 is not detrimental to the network. So feel free to use it.
:-)
There are some ugly bugs in UltraPeers, and hopefully, these will be fixed sometime soon.

I'm fairly sure the developers are aware of the situation. I only hope that they are figuring out what is causing the poor performance.

BTW, I tried out 2.1.0, and I was getting EXCELLENT results. They were equally comaparable to 1.7c. But that's just me on dial-up. I don't know how it is working out for others yet.
:-)

Greets,
