Default Not even attempting to connect... Mac OS X 10.4.8

Another connection issue. My Limewire client doesn't look like it's even attempting to connect. When I open up the "Connections" panel there is no action and at top in the status bar it says "0 Connecting". I've tried just about everything suggested in these forums with no luck getting Limewire to work on my new Mac Pro.

--

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
OS X 10.4.8

2. What firewalls you have?
Netbarrier (configured with NetBarrier Config File 2.0: http://www.topdownloads.net/mac/view.php?id=1624)

3. How much ram?
1 GB

4. Hard Disk space available?
60GB

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
cable

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
Modem: Scientific-Atlantic DPC2100 modem (provided by ISP)
Router: Netgear Rangemax Next Wireless Router (WNR834M)

7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
home

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
LimeWire 4.12.6 Pro
Java 1.5.0_06

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?
Comcast

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
Test works fine.

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
Also using Acquisition and Azureus (no problems there)

12. Is this a your 1st try at FW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
First try on Mac with this software setup, but I've used LimeWire elsewhere with no issues.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of FW's interface?
Yes.

Also, uPNP is enabled on my router with the following configuration:

UPnP Portmap Table
Active Protocol Int. Port Ext. Port IP Address
Enabled UDP 37373 37373
Enabled TCP 37373 37373

You may suffer some port issues if you're running Acquisition also. Set them both to run from different ports. One for port 6346 & the other for another higher port number like 64049. OH ... sorry I see you've set the port number already for port 37373. I don't quite understand the UPnP settings. Sounds to me like the port mapping is actually port forwarding which is not UPnP. I"m confused there. Do you have a static ip?

BTW for OSX you don't really need a firewall. But be sure it's properly configured. I don't know about that brand Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

BTW I edited out your personal internal ip address for security reasons. Not that people would be able to access you anyway via ...

Oh thanks... didn't see that I left that in. I'm on a dynamic IP anyways.

The only reason I am using my firewall (NetBarrier) is because I have a blocklist of IPs imported from PeerGuardian. After resetting the router to default settings and monkeying around with Acquisition/Limewire, Limewire no longer detects a firewall (and question #13 is now "no")... but still no luck. I see no attempts at making any sort of connection inside of LimeWire, as if the software is not even trying to connect. So strange.

No connection at all? You stated you set the UPnP ports to 37373 do did you try setting LW's connection & listening ports to the same? Go to LW's prefs , & go to Advanced>Firewalls & make appropriate changes to LW. Then press apply. You may need to re-open LW for changes to have a greater effect. See how it goes.

After restarting the router with default values, the UPnP port is now 15722. When I launched Aquisition for the first time, it seems to have added 6346 and 6347 to the list of uPNP ports as well.

In LimeWire, I have it set to use UPnP and 15722 is the listening port. Seems like it's set up right, but still all I still when I view the "Connections" pane all I see is:

(0 Ultrapeers, 0 Peers, 0 Leaves, 0 Connecting, 0 Standard)

Why not simply port forward a separate port for each of LW, Aquisition & Azureus. I don't understand your UPnP settings since my device doesn't support such. And port forwarding is more reliable in any case. Steps are ... 1. set up a static ip. 2. Forward a port. 3. Set LW appropriately; Manual port forward instructions & sample image
The windows instructions are here http://www.portforward.com/english/r...B/Limewire.htm

Mac static ip instructions are http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww01180p OR (ignore domain boxes) http://www.sonic.net/support/ss/mac/osx_staticip/

Default stupid question perhaps?

i'm having trouble connecting on my macbook so i checked out the help pages on the limewire site and it tells you how to configure your firewall to allow limewire to connect.

it says to create a new port and enter the TCP and UDP port numbers "as specified by limewires settings"

i can't find these numbers, i can only find the listening port number!

any help would be excellent, cheers!

By default the port is 6346. But if you go to LW's prefs > Advanced > Firewalls you can find the listening port LW is set at. I guess it depends whether you're using your connection device in UPnP or port forward mode. The latter will remain static whereas UPnP may vary. But connection port is best. Ideally listening & connection port will be the same.

ok, so i probably shouldn't have asked that question before, after i looked a bit more i found what i needed to know.

HOWEVER... it turns out that that wasn't the problem, nothing worked.

so, i turned my firewall off completely and limewire still doesnt connect and still shows that brick wall picture.

any suggestions?

Which firewall did you turn off? Netbarrier or your Netgear's NAT? BTW check to make sure your OSX firewall is not active. If it is, then that may be causing problems. Certainly running 2 software firewalls is not recommended.
