1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? None
3. How much ram? Enough...
4. Hard Disk space available? A Lot...
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Netgear dg834g
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.12.6 JAVA: 1.5.0_03
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? AOL
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Says the test worked...
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No, I did download another p2p program to see if it worked but it didnt...
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. No, had it for quite a while, it's only recently it's been doing this.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

Basically, I have one green connection bar at the bottom, I try to search for a song/artist etc and nothing comes up....any help would be appreciated :)

Your java is well out of date, Up date that first follow iistructions exactly.
Also XP firewall have you given L/W full permisions ?
Have you enabled UPnP in your Netgear dg834g ?

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Now! Use this Link to get (jre1.5.0 10) Use the off line installer NOT the (recormended) one,

Let us no if you get stuck.

Ok i've downloaded the new Java but it hasnt changed anything. I've used LW with my Netgear router before and I havent changed anything since so it cant be that....how do i give LW full permissions on an XP firewall? I assume that's the only thing it can be...

You have a built in NAT firewall in your modem/router and it's now making it difficult for you to connect...This means you will have to Port Forward, follow these instructions closely and it will fix your problem...:rolleyes_2:

Ok i've followed those instructions closely and done all that was required yet it still doesnt work....here is a picutre of my limewire if it helps at all...

On the bottom bit of that 'portforward' page you gave me it said this...

Quote:

You should see another page of settings that need to be entered into one of the blank lines on your routers NAT Rule - Add page. Go ahead and enter those settings and then click Submit.
However, I didnt have that so couldnt do it....anyway, thanks for your help so far, hopefully I can get it to work soon.

Oops you're using a host site for your image the forums banned because it was popularly used by nasty spammers & troll posters.

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Netgear UPnP is on by default. Normally netgear UPnP works fine. But perhaps for the odd model some people have had issues so port forwarding was the way to go.

Ugh...it's not working what type of picture upload can I use to show you what my problem is? It doesnt seem to be the firewalls either...

The thing I don't understand is that Limewire worked perfectly on this set up I had since I got it, I havent changed anything it's just come out of the blue.

Did you try port forwarding like I posted earlier ??

Xieldos January 14th, 2007 02:36 PM

Yeh I tried that, but like I said earlier, I have used Limewire for quite a while on the setup I have now and I havent changed anything at all so I cant understand why it just won't connect now.
