Ready to tear my hair out! Hello everyone. I got Limewire Pro on Saturday, and after 3 frustrating days I still can’t get it to connect. Here is the basic data that you have requested: 1. Windows XP 2. Norton Internet Security 3. 384 MB ram 4. 23 GB available on hard drive 5. Cable internet connection. 6. Motorola SB5100 modem, no router 7. Connecting from a house. 8. Limewire 4.12.6 Pro, Java 1.5.0_03 9. ISP is Comcast. 10. I did the test. Got the result “Your test worked.” 11. Not sharing with other computers or p2p programs. 12. This is my first try with Limewire. 13. Yes, there is a brick wall in front of the Limewire icon. I’ve tried everything suggested on the Connection Troubleshooting page relating to firewalls: I have an exception in Norton for the Limewire program, and the program allows both TCP and UDP on all ports. I have also completely disabled Norton a number of times and tried to connect, without any change. My internet connection as relates to all other programs on the computer works normally. Any ideas? |
1 Attachment(s) Roarke Nice cable modem, I've added a picture to this post for other forum members to look at. Anyway, it seems that Comcast may be one of the ISP that install bandwidth shaping hardware and software to curb P2P usage: Here is the URL to another part of the forum where other users have had the same problem as you: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...hlight=Comcast Hope this helps. UK Bob, Thanks for your reply, but it seems from reading through the whole of the thread that you directed me to that Comcast does NOT block p2p usage, but merely frowns upon it. And even if Comcast IS blocking it, what can I do about it? |
Roarke If Comcast is blocking P2P usage then there is not a lot you can do other than to change ISPs. Why not ask Comcast if they are curbing P2P in your area, that way you will know for sure. UK Bob |
