Why PTforward ? it works same with FWall

As a complete newbie I have been slapping myself on the back for the past 20mins having finally managed to achieve port forwarding through my router and get a connection with no bricks in front of my globe in the bottom left hand corner..

Iv'e made extensive use of the forums and their links to make this happen so credit is due to the groups..

But - why do I need to do all this ? when it does not appear to have made any difference to how the application works.

And - now I have a port forwarded what happens to my PC when I am not running the application, can those nasty internet prodders and pokers unwind my system through the pinhole in my defences..

Ta, Andy

Alot of people that are firewalled cant even get a connection to the network and some can and they still download without a problem...The ones that can still connect will not be sharing their files though as nobody would be able to connect to them or browse them...So you have actually done the network a big favour by forwarding a port...
No nasties will enter your computer either the port you have opened is only for limewire...:rolleyes_2:

thankyou i am no longer wondering why !!

would you care to try connecting to my now open connection to see if my (boring at the moment) shared files can be accessed - someone appeared to try earlier but my super ADSL2 connection only let them upload at about 4kbps - which is very poor considering I have set the thing to allow unlimited upload speed.

You will have to tell me what I need to tell you to let you connect directly as I have no idea !

if its too tricky or you can't be botheres, i understand and thanks all the same..

That's cool...you will have to pm me your IP number you will find it by clicking on Direct Connect, don't post it in this thread though...

Also you shouldn't have your uploads set that high if your speed isn't according...
Check this sticky out, it will help get all your settings correct...
A few things to consider while configuring Limewire for optimal performance.

thanks for testing me out - all good

I have made a few changes to the config and just got 100kbps download, as well as limiting your uploads to 50K for the future.

going to be happy - thanks.
