Angry Ultrapeer makes me not want to use limewire

This message is for the developers of limewire. I keep experiencing the same problem as apparently everyone else using limewire version 2.0 . Ultrapeer is supposed to be so much more efficient and widen your connections. But unfortunately it does the exact opposite. Their is major usablility problems with this new version, people get frustrated and will eventually find another way to connect to the gnutella network. I have cable internet, I could usually be connected to at least a few hundred hosts, I could find anything I wanted. I was a big advocate of limewire. Now i am unable to find anything. I might have better luck finding a song on napster instead of 2.0. Please do something about this, the request is coming from many and should be taken care of immediately. I would personally consider purchasing the other limewire version, but since the free test version doesn't work, I will not waste my money. These are factors you should be considering.

I got around the ultrapeer sillyness this way:
first I tell it that my sytem has a T3 line
then I set the connection number to 50
and I remove the ultrapeer host. It automatically connects to the 50 servers.
If you are lucky, they are not ultrapeers.
As soon as you see some connections established, lower the connection number.
There you are... a 'normal' gnutella connection.

That reminds me that I still am declared as T3.
No idea if I fall back to ultrapeer if I lower that.

Thumbs down UltraProblematic

I agree, UltraPeer is an UltraPain. I was an UltraChump and purchased LimewirePro, which also comes with UltraPeer. Now I share files with thousands times fewer hosts than I used to before I installed the 2.0 version of LimeWire. I've tried George's solution, but so far to no avail

I was even going to make a nice donation to LimeWire thru PayPal because of pleasant past experieces with earlier versions of their product. Now my donation is on hold until they clear up the UltraPeer UltraProblem.

I have been using Limewire with a T1 for a long time...I went from 10 Host connections to 1...what the hell! I was a big advocate until now...Hope you fix it soon.

My sugestion is you uninstall lime and try gnucleus, it has multi host downloads and stability.

Try it you might like it.

Limewire looked like they had finally gotten it right. They added swarming and Ultrapeer support. The problem is that the way they are implementing ultrapeers is that it sucks. I'll try the program again sometime in the future. I'll stick with a hacked version of Xolox that does auto research and swarming. I get wonderfull results in Xolox and the longer I leave the search running the better the results are. In Limewire I'm lucky to get a tenth of what I would get in Xolox. Too bad they don't make Xolox anymore or I wouldn't even be looking. Right now it's still better than anything else out there.

Yes,

This version of LimeWire with UltraPeer sucks. Here is what I would like to see:

1. A connection management interface that maximizes the number of available files for the number of connections available

2. A persistent search engine that doesn't take no for an answer

3. A download routine that checks line speed and downloads from the fastest server

How long has Gnuetella been around? Is this stuff that hard to program?

Check the Disaple Ultrapeer Capabilities Box, in speed section.

Works great
