Loosing IP When I Download It seems whenever I try and download a file my connection drops and I can't even connect to the internet at all. I tried repairing my IP in network connections but there is no IP to repair! I have repalced the modem with the best one my cable company has so I know its not the modem, and it only happens with Limewire. Downloading anyway else (yahoo chat, msn, regular internet) works really well. The only way to fix it is if I reboot my computer I can then connect and everything is fine. I paid for limewire pro and I feel like Im not getting my moneys worth at all. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? |
Hi AlphAzero. System details - help us to help you Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again. So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX ) XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.? 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first! but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details. This information can be vital For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth, some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations. So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can. If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions, or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink: Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there. __________________ Peace. |
System Info No problem , sorrry about that. I have windows XP with service pack 2. My firewall is off, but I also have Norton Systemworks which does my monitoring and Adaware, but I only use that one to manually to scan for adware. My computer has a pentium 4 2.40 GHz processor with 512 MB of ram. My hard drive is 76.32 GHz and I have 13.44 GHz avaliable. My modem is high speed broadband up to 7mb I think...? Its pretty fast. My internet is through Brighthouse networks cable, and I do not share this computer with anyone else. I have Limewire 4.12.4 Pro and I have been using it for awhile although I don't really get into the tweaks and tricks. I just load it and start downloadind/uploading. When I load Limewire there is a brickwall but that goes away as soon as the connection starts up. I just tried your link and it said my test worked as well. If there is any additional information you need please let me know so I can get this fixed as soon as possible. Thanks! |
Hi Alpha Can you just confirm 4.12.4 ? And what java are you running ? , Go, Help/about L/W, its there |
Confirm Yes it is I double checked 4.12.4 Pro. And I am running 1.50_02 java. |
Right Your java is very old and may have isues Now! Go to, START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs, now completely remove all versions of java. Now! Use this Link to get JRE 6 Use the off line installer NOT the (recormended) one, http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java. Follow thease instructions exactly. Tell us if that sorts it. Peace. |
Didnt Work  Same thing happened. I got the new java and installed it exactly like it said. I even checked it in limewire to make sure it took. I just tried it and all I was doing was searching and the same thing happened. Dropped connection and I could not get on the internet so I had to reboot! ?????? |
Try the tips here & see if they help Reduce the drag caused by LW |
Still Loosing IP and more.... OK I tried the tweaks from the last post and everything seemed like it was working pretty good. Sometimes it dosent drop right away, so I was waiting to see if it would do it and low and behold after about 10 min I lost my connection, BUT......When I rebooted I could not connect to the internet and when I went to Hardware Manager there was an error with the ethernet drivers. It said this device cannot start (Code 10). I had to reinstall my drivers AND when I went to check my mail I had to put the serial number in to reload it! That has never happened...... |
One More Thing I just noticed that when I disconnected my connection manually from limewire it continued to upload/download. I dont know if that is normal so just thought I would mention it. |
