Limewire will not connect. This solution may help you.
I've seen dozens of posts with solutions that did not work. I tried every single one of them, and was equally disappointed each time. I removed/installed Limewire 6 times. I rebooted my computer numerous times. I cursed my computer. I poked it with a stick. I even cleaned the monitor. Still no luck. I never had trouble with Limewire, but I stopped using it about 2 months ago and when I returned and downloaded the newest version I was met with resistance.
Each time upon starting Limewire, it would try to connect. I'd see 1 green bar and it would show I was behind a firewall. Since I noticed a lot of the issues dealt with firewalls, I disabled Windows Firewall and DMZ'd my computer through the router. At that point, my computer was behind no firewall and Limewire had unrestricted access to the Internet. I start up Limewire and what do I see? 1 green bar, and the Firewall icon. At this point I figured Limewire was mad at me because I was on hiatus for 2 months and would deny any and all attempts to use the service again.
Well, colorful story aside, after fighting with this issue for 3 hours now I decided to point at my router. I'm using a DI604 and went to DLink's website to search for a firmware upgrade. There was one. I downloaded and installed the firmware update, and guess what? Limewire works now.
I am leaning towards this as the solution only because I installed Limewire on 3 machines on this network. It didn't work on any one of them and I only used my main machine as a test subject for the fixes I've seen on this forum and the multiple re-installations and reboots. Nothing changed on the other systems, and those machines were not rebooted. But after upgrading the firmware on the router, Limewire now miraculously works on every machine. Coincidence or solution?
If you aren't comfortable messing with your router, I suggest you find someone that is. Upgrading is pretty straight-forward and you just basically need to run the setup wizard afterwards, but networks can get messy at times.
I hope this helps.
