Problems Connecting 2--more information I am having trouble connecting. "Birdy" answered my post and asked for more information. Here it is... :sorry: 1)I have windows XP 2)I am pretty sure the only firewalls are Norton Internet Security or antivirus. I'm not sure if antivirus actually uses a firewall, but I know Norton internet security does. 3)1 gigabyte 4)42 gigs free space 5)we use a wireless router for internet-card built into lap top 6)router-dell inspiron wireless card built into computer modem-linksys, number is.........? 7)connecting from house 8)limewire version-4.12.3 pro java version-1.5.0_06 9)internet service provider is comcast 10) I went to the site http://www3.limewire.com:6346/. it said, "your test worked" 11)I am using my internal network card to get internet service that is already being used by three other computers in the same house. (Other computers in the house successfully use limewire.) 12)This is not my first try at limewire on this computer or on others. It seemed to suddenly stop working. In case it has anything to do with it, I lost internet connection for a while, but I got it back again (obviously) and after a while tried limewire and it didn't work. The internet connection loss was a result of me accidentally blocking windows explorer from accessing the internet using the norton internet security firewall, which saw internet explorer as a low risk. I removed internet explorer from the list of blocked programs, and it worked. Weeks later, limewire isn't working either.:bangh: probably totally unrelated, but like I said, just in case. Limewire is listed as being permitted to use the internet. and finally, 13)Yes, there is a brick wall in front of the world icon. Proably bad. Thanks for the help. I hope this makes things easier. :lamo: |
We will need your router model# it should be on the router somewhere on mine it is on the bottom in really fine print. Most Linksys routers have NAT firewalls in them and need to be configured. |
Linksys router stuff okay, I may be able to get the router number in a while, but it's on someone else's computer who doesn't want me @$#!ing around with stuff, and who may not trust me "configuring" anything. If it's possible, I need another way to do this. In any case, another computer identical to mine with the same internal network card and internet connections is connecting to limewire through the same internet service provider and the same router and modem and all that. So the problem isn't with the internet connection, unless it's on this computer. |
Limewire started working! This is really odd, but suddenly, I have a perfect connection. For future, reference, though, I would still appreciate a response as to what I could have done to troubleshoot or solve the problem.:) :) :) |
