Limewire Not Connecting

Hey all. I recently have had a problem connecting with Limewire PRO. I am using Windows XP Home, a NetGear WGT624 v3 Router and Nortan Internet Security 2006.

I have disabled Windows XP Firewall and also set Limewire to "Permit All" on Nortan Internet Security. On the Limewire connections tab, all connections are saying "connecting..." and at the bottom left it says "Starting Connection". The odd time also I get on the connections tab I get one connection saying "Outgoing" and the bottom left corner changes to "Poor Connection".

I have also tried port forwarding the "Listen to Port" number on my router.

Can you help? Thanks, Matt.

Please give us your details (sorry for any repeat questions)
System details - help us to help you

Try reconfiguring Norton

When you tried port forwarding, did you make sure to set up a static IP address first? Did you use instructions from portforward.com? Just in case, here are the instructions for your router...you can double check things if you like;)
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...3/Limewire.htm

Remember that LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router all have to be the same number.

You could also try enabling UPnP within the router & then choosing the UPnP option within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config.

.Matt93 March 13th, 2007 10:09 AM

1. OS version? Windows Xp Home
2. What firewalls you have? Nortan Internet Security 2006.
3. How much ram? 1GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 51GB
5. Connection type? Broadband.
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? NetGear WGT624 v3
7. Where are you trying to connect from "House".
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.13.2 and Java 1.5.0_08, but I used to have LW 4.12.?(last digit not sure of) which also did work.
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Fastcom (Irish Company)
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Its says "Your test worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Yes, to a computer downstairs and a laptop (sometimes), but has not been working before I added the computer downstairs, and the laptop is currently off and LW still not working.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. This is a new problem with an experienced user (less than a year though).
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes.

Hi Mat.
LW 4.13.2 ? Is it real or is it memorex
Sounds like a fake copy.
Peace.

.Matt93 March 13th, 2007 01:04 PM

Its a Beta I downloaded from the site. I think you can only get it if you have purchased Limewire PRO, which I have. No fake anyway.

mickjapa108 March 14th, 2007 12:37 AM

Hi Matt93.

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

"Yes, to a computer downstairs and a laptop (sometimes), but has not been working before I added the computer downstairs"
Matt.
When using 2 computers you must create 2 static IPs, then portfoward each
computer with difrant Port numbers in LimeWire that should solve it we hope.
Peace.

.Matt93 March 14th, 2007 08:59 AM

But I don't use Limewire on the PC downstairs, and it was not working before I put a computer downstairs.

Still would this make a diffrence? Even if the one downstairs isn't on?

mickjapa108 March 14th, 2007 09:21 AM

Sounds like things have become jumbled.

Follow thease instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get JRE 6, Use the off line installer, NOT the (recormended) one,
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
http://www.limewire.com/
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.
You may still need to portforwad your router after,
Peace

.Matt93 March 19th, 2007 01:12 PM

Nope, hasn't fixed it :( Anyone else have any suggestions?

didn't work for me either so tired of this mess

mickjapa108 March 20th, 2007 05:02 AM

Hi Matt
Birdy gave you this link earler, you never said you followed it.
This link takes you to your router setup page, take your time read all info
and follow exactly, its so easy to miss 1 apply button, then it wont work.
Setting up a static IP first & apply is so important.
