Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

ltdesign you should go to the OSX sections of this forum. See the Stickys in those sections. Your fix is reinstalling Java/security update.

I have tried alot of the things here also. I am using 4.8.1 PRO and every time i open it and try to connect it trys and then my entire internet goes down on my computer. NO netscape or Internet Explorer or anything for 10 mins then it starts back up. I am using a D-Link 524 router that is hooked up to 3 computer and a wireless laptop. One other computer and the laptop always have LW working when they want. The settings on the other computer are not alot diffrent than mine. I tried disabling the windows firewall and Norton is all off also. I am using XP pro with all the updates, 1 gig ram, p4 2.6 40g HDD if that makes any diffrence. I dont know why it works on the other ones and not this computer. I did notice that when i looked at the limewire on the one computer it shows its port as 6348 not 6346 and i tried changing it here with no luck. I think its a router thing or sometihng like that. It is just strange it shuts my LAN down for my computer when i try to connect. I cant even access the network once it shuts it down i have to sit and wait 10mins for it st start back up. Let me know if you have any ideas or need any more info.

Your 1st question: To delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire (see the example images at bottom of that page!)

Instead of using an audio search, try using the All Types search & then press on the audio filter to the left of the search results.

I quickly looked through those and dont see how they could help. I have done the prefernce thing and shut off all firewalls and still no luck. I seem to think its a router/network issue as it shuts down my network for my computer when i try to connect to LW it shuts me off the network for 10 mins. Dont get it but it works on the other computer so it must be either my computer and how its set up on the network and router. I dont get it. were all running XP pro but i di notice mine has more icons under network connections. The one computer upstaris has jsut Local Are connection and thats how it connects to the routher and everytihn works for him. Wher i have 1394 connection as one icon and Network bridge as another icon and a local area connection as the last and it is never enabled it usually is disabled but does not change anytihng either way so the network and internet is running off the other two connections whatever they are???

Hmmm networked connections can be a little tricky. You're using a bridge which in itself may be a problem.

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. How may computers connected to network & how many are using LW?
10. What's the speed of your isp plan (what speed are you people paying for) & (b) What speeds does your friend get?

The test works fine.

1) XP Pro All service Packs and updates done as far as i know.

2)Windows firewall is off and i have norton systemworks 2003 and there is no firewall with that as far as i know. I even turn it off and it makes no difference anyway so i doont think its that.

3) 1 gig of ram

4) 40 Gig HDD and 15 or so free

5) Connection is wireless high speed i would call it cable as it is from a cable compnay.

6)Router is a Dl-524. The internets modem says ADC-V251 Wireless Modem on the side.

7) At home all the computer are at home

8) got version 4.8.1 PRO and the newest Java you had shown to downlaod previsouly the JRE or something i beleive it was JRE1.5.0.04 or something like that.

9)There are 3 computer connected and occasionly a Laptop wirelessly The laptop has LW and it works for it and one of the computer has it and it works fine.

10) I couldnt tell you but i know when i test the connection speed on DSLreports.com or other websites its get anywhere from 700 k to 1.3 MB surfing speed. I know when i had LW before i could DL at well over 100 K, not that that means anything but it gives you an idea. Not sure what te other computers get never tested them but it has to be close. And i know other peopel with the same internet around are getting slower or maybe equal speeds. No one is getting a faster connection.

Hope his helps as i greatly miss LW
