Default SP2 no more, and still doesn't work.

I previously posted as a guest called Not ready to give up yet. I was so frustated with SP2 and all of the problems it has been causing(not just with limewire), that I decided to uninstall it and wait for M$ to try and fix it up some(if thats possible for them). I was hoping that this would allow Limwire to connect, however, still no luck. I don't know if SP2 has still changed some setting that didn't change during the uninstall, or if SP2 had nothing to do with my problems in the first place. I've searched through everything I could on this forum, and still couldn't find a solution. Maybe I'm just no longer supposed to download files to my computer. If you find a magic cure, I'd love to here it, but for now Good Luck!

From what I remember reading (I might be wrong), once you install a service pack it's very difficult to 'fully' uninstall it. This was a M$ warning.

Default That sounds like Microsoft

They never want you to go back to before you had problems. They want you to pay lots and lots of money for stuff that doesn't work. I know you didn't have to pay for SP2, but they charge enough for everything else, you think they could at least test their products better before giving them to us to find their mess ups. Thanks Lord of the Rings, I've read a lot of your stuff, and tried many of your solutions, unfortunatley they didn't work, but you sure sound like you know what you're doing.

Thank you - I've been pulling my hair out for 3 days with 1-2 minute connections then down again. I'm on windows xp and I followed your directions exactly and everything is good again.

Can you be a little more specific? Please supply as many details you can such as comp type, os 9.?, Java version, connection type & what your prob is & any particular details that might help us to help u to solve it. Explain what you do in detail & what happens. My 1st suggestion is to update to the latest Java for os9: for 9.2.2 that's http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120209 & for other os9's: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75097 LW runs on Java & Java is an imperfect softw. The mac version has always had some issues.

Do you have any forced resume files? The reason I'm asking this is b/c these files will be constantly sending out searches for sources every few mins. Whilst it can be effective, if you have a very large quantity of them, it can fill up your upld bandwidth (particularly until they've all given up their searches) which 'can' play havoc with your connection quality. If you do reply back & I'll explain how to overcome it (it's a painful thing to go thru.)

eatartichokes007, are you using OS X's built-in firewall? (I know for sure Panther has one, but can't remember for Jaguar and am not ready to go back to it just to check it out).
