Hi u2509: Can you tell us what firewalls you use & about your connections devices: modem & router brand names & model numbers? Also tell us where you're connecting from: home school, work, etc,?

Default no connection

I just read through Lord of the Rings replies to Crash607 and I tried the tests that LOR gave Crash. The first test was successful but the second test, I got this result > initializing...
Your local IP address is **.**.*.***
Your global IP address is <?=$REMOTE_ADDR?>
It would appear that your machine does use NAT.
Your machine has an IP address of ***.**.**.**,
but your browser connected to this page from <?=$REMOTE_ADDR?>!
You are in the private range: **.**.0.0 - **.**.255.255 (**.16/12 prefix)

Can you tell me what that means? And is that the problem why I have not been able to connect lately? I have had Limewire for a few months now, but just recently I haven't been able to connect. Thank you...

Hi yomamafoo: I edited your post b/c I don't think it's a good idea for others to see your ip address.

It means that you have a modem & possibly a router as well that uses NAT. 1. Can you tell me the brand name(s) & model number(s) of your modem & router? Your equipment will need port forwarding to allow LW access thru a port b/c at present many of your ports are blocked. You will also need to set up an static ip. Instructions how to do both these things I'll give you when you tell me the answers to the above questions. 2. Also which OS version do you use? 3. Also where are you connecting from: home, school, work, etc.?

I couldn't find specific instructions for your model but the others listed on the follwoing page wilol probably be almost identical. Perhaps try the 3com 3C857 Port Forward instructions (top left column for 3com) & also see the link for creating a static ip which you'll need to forward a port properly otherwise this no. will always change each time you connect to the net/restart the comp. Just click on the model name in brown text & on the following page select Port Forwarding instructions.

After this you will need to force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image which will be the easiest part.

If you're using Windows update your Java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link) (though I have a suspicion you use a mac right?)

Here's some hints for optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. Good luck!

Win XP, so did you install SP2? I hope not, you don't need it b/c it was not designed for individual home users! And sp2 reduces connectivity to the net & also changes all your firewall settings back to default.

To configure XP & other firewalls to allow LW acces see here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml (other firewall types are at bottom of page.)
