Grandpa, here's my info from that link... Let me know what I can do... 1. I went to Sheilds UP ( http://www.grc.com/port_6346.htm ) and did the port test it said that it was in stealth mode. I also used the http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ and it said test worked. I havent tried any other sharing files so i dont know if they will work. |

I see your RWIN is set to low for your connection you should set it between 125,000 and 130,000 for your connection speed. Your avg ping 79 X 1.5 = 118.5 X connection sped 1085 = 128,572 is your recommended RWIN You can download DrTCP at the link below and reset your RWIN with it you must reboot for the changes to take affect. http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp Also I am not exactly sure what problem you are having is you wrote Quote:
Although you do talk about firewall issues which leads me to believe it is connection issue. You did say one works and the other doesn't. I am assuming you are using both at home on the same connection. Check to make sure that limeWire is set up the same on both same ports etc. Your router does have a firewall in it but if one is working and the other isn't this should not be an issue unless one is using Port forward and the other isn't remember each must have a static IP address if you are port forwarding. Check and make sure. Changing your RWIN is not going to help you to connect but it will help your data transfer speeds. I have a feeling you new computer needs to have a static IP set up on it but I am not sure you did not mention how LimeWire was set up on your work computer. But if LimeWire works on one and you are using the same connection then it should work on the other if it is setup the same. |

I have a desktop computer that is connected to my router/modem through a bridge. I installed limewire on it and it has no problem connecting. it shows no firewall and is turbo charged. so that narrows it down to my laptop. i also installed morpheus (on the Laptop) just to test the connection and it shows starting connection and a firewall. |

Have you configured your laptop connection settings the same as your desktop. I see your router supports UPnP is you desktop set to port Forward or UPnP. Set the laptop up the same. The link below is for setting your router/computer for Port Forward remember you must set up LimeWire and your computer up the same on all machines. If you are port forwarding each computer must have it's own static IP address. http://portforward.com/english/route...G/Limewire.htm |

Let me be more clear on what my problem is: When I try to connect from my personal laptop, I get the error that my computer is trying to connect to the network. About 2 months ago I reset my wireless router (button on the back of the device) and limewire worked for the rest of that evening, but then didn't the next time I tried to use it. It just says that "connecting" message whenever I do a search. On my work laptop (the one that LW works on) the firewall settings are set to UPnP and the "listen on port" is set to 40530, and when I set those same settings on my new personal laptop, it still doesn't work. I went to my router settings and changed it to static instead of dynamic (hopefully I did this right), and then LW stopped working on my work laptop too. Both computers starting running super slow when I opened LW also... I wonder if my personal is not set up for UPnP? I guess I'm just pretty confused cuz I'm not too savvy on this firewalling stuff... Also, I installed the Dr TCP program and changed my RWIN to what you suggested. Until I get LW connecting, I guess I won't know what difference it makes, but thanks for the suggestion... I have Windows 2000...not xp and I cant connect. I tried deleting that .limewire file and that didnt work...Oh yea im connected thru a linksys router with a wireless adapter. But I disabled the firewall and limewire still said that it was on. Could there be another firewall? The router also Supports UpNp so i dunno what to do. |

Also I went to the link from dragon_egg (http://www.grc.com/port_6346.htm) and it says that my 6346 port is closed. So obviously I need to open that port or use UPnP, but I thought I'd already opened the port 6346. I went to the windows firewall and put 2 exceptions on the list, one for TCP port 6346 and the other for UDP port 6346. I also went on my router's settings and followed the instructions at this link: http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1331#604 Hopefully this info helps a bit more, thanks grandpa |

ekfh Your Linksys router probably has a firewall in it what model is it. If you know how to enable UPnP in your router enable it and set LimeWire to use UPnP. The link below may help. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...516#post179516 |
