Can't connect to any files...

1. OS version? Windows XP Media Center Edition
2. What firewalls you have? Zone Alarm Pro (Windows Firewall is deactivated, but I put in an excpetion for LW just in case
3. How much ram? 1GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 102GB free out of a total 200GB
5. Connection type? Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Dlink 604
7. Where are you trying to connect from? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire 4.12.11, Java 1.6.0.
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says "Your test worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Yes, I am sharing the connection with a computer downstairs. The computer downstairs works perfectly with Limewire. Only on certain occasions will it not connect to files.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I am a fairly experienced user with Limewire, and I have had some connection problems in the past, but not like this.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? There is absolutely no brick wall infront of the blue world icon, even though I have Zone Alarm (I have properly configured it to accept Limewire and I have also put the port number as an exception).

Every time I try to download a song off Limewire, it always says "Connecting..." but never connects. This is weird because I have forwarded the correct port according to my router (Dlink 604), I have made the correct excpetions to my firewall (Zone Alarm, and even added it to Windows Firewall, although I have deactivated it since I use Zone Alarm), and there is no brick wall infront of the blue world icon, and it even says "Turbo-Charged Connection" on the bottom left. I also have the latest Java (Java SE 1.6.0). I have also tried deleting the LW preferences folder after exiting Limewire. I have even tried updating my routers firmware. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Limewire. Nothing works.

wondering why March 21st, 2007 04:16 PM

Maybe you should try changing your port and listen numbers to 64049, you will have to change the number you have forwarded in your router as well though....

I know Comcast shape and throttle p2p so that may explain that at certain times you cant connect upstairs either...

Have you also looked at this thread about fake files....
Fake files in search results

Dead_Man_Inc March 22nd, 2007 11:32 AM

Thanks, I'll try changing the port when I get to my own PC. But it could be that I get bad luck with fake files. When I search for a song, I usually organize them according to #'s, and since all this connection problems started they've always been high (90's). So they might be fake. I'll look for files with lower #'s and more accurate filenames, like the posts in the link said.
