Can't connect to any downloads anymore  I recently reformated my hard drive and have just reinstalled limewire and now I can't get any files to connect and download. I think this may be a newer version than I had before. I have read MANY of the posts on here and tried everything but nothing is working. Any suggestions? 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? Verizon Security (but I allow LW, and even before I downloaded that program I still couldn't connect) 3. How much ram? Not sure 4. Hard Disk space available? Not sure, but more than enough I know 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) DSL 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Westell Versa link 327 W 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? home 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.12.11 and 1.5.0_11 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Verizon 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says that it works 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No/none 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem, been using LW for years 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! |
Is your LW's connection to the network ok (a few Verizon customers are having problems connecting lately)? If you have all green connection bars, try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 below (also point 2, if you've used much older versions of LW in the past). Fixes for LimeWire Your router has a firewall, if you want to get rid of the brick wall firewall icon, try port forwarding. The instructions are below. http://www.portforward.com/english/r...W/Limewire.htm Remember that the port forwarded thru a router, LW's listening port & port in the 'manual port forward' box must all be the same number;) |
Thanks birdy. The port forwarding looks awfully complicated and I would hate to mess something else up on my computer. If the router firewall is not hurting anything (it hasn't in the past) then I just as well leave it alone. I went back to LW and tried downloading a different artist and it worked fine, then went back to first artist I tried downloading and again had problems. Guess LW doesn't like *******...LOL. I tried the solution of getting rid of preferences file. That didn't help. I'll mess around with it a bit more and keep your link for port forwarding in case I decide to try it. Thanks. __________________________________________________ Edited to comply with the House Rules.
