Ok thanks for your time. Sorry if I don't have some details cos I'm not great at computers.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP Professional
2. What firewalls you have? WIndows
3. How much ram? 1GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 160GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Satellite
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Not sure sorry
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire 4.12.3 Pro and Java 1.5.0_07
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Some company called MyWisp
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your test worked! thats all that happened
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Yes, I'm not exactly sure but I'm sharing with 1 other computer which has the main internet but the internet it transfered to my computer through a Powerline USB Adapter....hope that helped
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I've had some sort of limewire for about 2 years but 6months ago i got limewire pro and it worked but in the last month it just says 'starting connection'.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

Make sure that the XP firewall's configured to allow LW.
Firewall setup

Has the firewall icon always been there?

You should find out what modem/router (there might just be a satellite modem, or there could be a router too) the main computer uses & if anything's changed since your LW stopped working.

In LW go to tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 > apply. See if that helps.

I'll be honest with you...I know pretty much nothing about powerline networking

Yes I'm pretty sure the firewall icon has always been there.

By the way, i left the computer by itself for about an hour and i came back and it said it had a fair connection but then disappeared.

I might be able to find out what modem/router it is but i'm not sure how to find it. Am I able to look for it on the computer or do I physically have to look for it?

And I changed the listening port number thing and it didnt do anything.

Go to the main computer & have a look at what's plugged into it. The modem might be on the roof, I'm not too sure. But it might be inside, connected to the main computer. A router should be plugged into the main computer.

Does the main computer belong to someone else? If there's a problem with a modem or router, you should talk to whoever owns the main computer...if you need to go making any changes to the setup, they should know about it

Does anyone use LW on the main computer? If so, can they connect? Have you tried using any other p2p?

I found something on the main computer and it's a 4-port powerline ethernet bridge (not sure its wot we're looking for).

The main computer is owned by the rest of the computer and they have got a less idea than i do so they'd be no help.

I just went onto the main computer and it's limewire says you're not fully connected to the network but its pretty good. It has been on for ages now and has taken tones of time to get to that point. I havnt tried any other p2p (p2p is like file sharing isnt it).

I'll have to have a look on Google about that ethernet bridge a bit later. Is that the only box that connects to the main computer? What about a modem?

Yep, p2p is file sharing. If you like, you could try using another file sharing app & just see how you go connection-wise. It's up to you if you want to have a try

Yea it's the only box outside the main computer so the modem must be inside. What other p2p do u recommend?

You could try BearShare. Use the version of BS that Aaron mentions here (the one that uses Bearstart) the links for download are in this thread
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=53386

See how you go with that & I'll see if I can find any more info about what modem MyWisp use a bit later, or if there's more than 1.
