![]() Hi, I recently downloaded LW 4.18.8 due to other's problems with version 5. However, it will not establish a connection to the Gnutella network for me. Below is my system information: 1. OS - XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2 2. Firewalls - Windows Firewall, Symantec Client Firewall, Symantec Anti-virus 3. RAM - 1.25 GB 4. Hard disk space available - 20.3 GB 5. Connection Type - Wireless 6. Connection Location - School/Work 7. Java edition - 6.13 8. Going to http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ shows "Your test worked!" 9. In the U.S.A. 10. Have used Limewire in the past with no issues. 11. The internet connection I'm on is an unsecured "guest" connection 12. There is a brick wall in front of a blue world icon 13. Interesting side note - after updating to latest version of Java, the all-new-email on yahoo doesn't load correctly. 14. Have also tried installing Frostwire and I get no connection to their network. 15. Have tried changing listening port to 65000 without success I hope this helps. Regards, Warren |

![]() There are a few different fixes to try here: If LW 4 Will Not Connect If you're using 2 software firewalls at once, they can conflict with each other & neither one will work properly. Try disabling XP's firewall & then reconfigure the Symantec firewall to allow LW - remove all LW rules & then add them again from scratch. If that doesn't help, delete LW's preferences folder next. See the top link for more info ![]() |

![]() After a system crash I hade to reformat the hard disk and reinstall Windows and all software. After reinstallation, Limewire cannot connect to the Gnutella network. My system details: 1. OS: Windows XP SP 3. 2. Firewalls: Norton Antivirus - and Spyware Doctor (but that is not a firewall?). Anyhow, I have given Limewire permission to access the Internet on both programs. The Windows firewall is deactivated. 3. RAM: 4 GB 4. Avalable hard disk space 43 GB 5. Connection type: ADSL 8 Mbs 6. Modem: Alcatel SpeedTouch 7. Connecting from home (freelancer) 8. Limewire version: 4.12.6 9. ISP: Telia Sonera Sweden 10. Checking http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ gives the reply 'Your test worked!'. 11. This is not a shared connection 12. LW has worked perfectly earlier on the same computer with virtually the same configuration and the same ISP 13. Yes, there is a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Have tried both with no success 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? – See item 2. 16. What country are you living in? Sweden. 17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? - Have reinstalled OS and all software, but in principle with the same configuration as before. I might add that I have a similar problem with the external backup service (over the Internet) that I am using – I get the error message that a firewall is blocking the Internet connection, although I have given the backup program permissions to access the Internet. |
